: Before and After - Hood Ornament Emblem Restoration

Here's a picture of the piece before:

And here's the after:

I'm rather pleased with how this turned out and I intend to redo all the emblems on my 1972 Eldorado.

The piece not only has been repainted, but has been filled with clear resin to protect the paint, prolong its life, and mimic original appearance.

I'm thinking of restoring more of these pieces, if I can find them.

I can't do anything about the chrome, but at least I can make the paint look good.

Cool! My trunk lock shield needs this treatment.

If I were to start offering this as a service, would anyone be interested?

I'm pretty sure some people would be. I think I've seen other folks talk about doing this. Price would make a difference too. I know this kind of work can be time consuming. I recommend you post in the late model deville forum as well because there seems to be a lot more people in there. The population in the classic forum is kind of slim.

The biggest problem is that you can't do this with later-model cars. Only the '70s and '80s ones have metal emblems that can be repainted. Sometime in the '80s, they switched to plastic pieces. If you pop out the plastic lens, the design comes with it and, more often than not, breaks.

Nice work.
