: CHP Encounter

I am happy to say that my first encounter with the law since I've been driving my V coupe was actually positive. Let me explain.

I purchased a Thunder Grey coupe in January and after 2 days of driving this vehicle, I went straight to Best Buys and picked up a $500.00 Passport IX radar detector. This vehicle is scary fast, almost as fast as the planes I fly so I need the best ECMs money can buy. Anyway so I'm cruising NE bound on Newport Blvd in Newport Beach and I noticed a CHP cruiser ahead and slightly to my right. I do a quick check of my speed and continued minding my own business while keeping a watchful eye on five oh who I observed eyeballing me on his rear view mirror. The cruiser switches lanes and is now to my left. Slower traffic causes his lane to slow and I pass. This dude is eyeballing my car and I'm thinking "oh great…I'm gonna get a DWB", should I try to hide the passport, shit my windows are tinted but not heavily, dammit I'm gonna get my first ticket driving this V. We come to a stop light just before entering the 55 fwy. Its red, I wisely decide not to run it, cop pulls up on my left flank, rolls his passenger window down and flashes me a thumbs up sign. The light turns green and he peels off. I considered flooring it but again common sense prevails and I let him go about his business. I guess cops like Vs.:)

Anyone else with similar encounters?

There's a local cop that lives in my area. We've had several conversations about my car; he had a V1. I try to drive sanely in town and let the other tools in their Camry's, BMW's and Jeeps show themselves. We don't want V drivers to get bad reputations. :lildevil:

First let me complement you on your taste in cars and colors!
I was pulled over recently in my neighborhood by a cop running radar. Instead of approaching the driver side straight off, the guy walked around the back and up the passenger side before coming around to me. The windows were down so I didn't know what he was looking at. Anyways, he tells me I was doing 31 in a 25 zone, says "nice car", takes my licence/insurance, and then walks around the front of the car. He ran my info, said "really nice car" a couple more times and then "have a great day". No ticket, did not even warn me to slow down.

Is that driving while black or driving while blond?

Radar detectors are illegal in CA?

Blacks pretty much always get hassled, ticketed, and/or beat down in public.

Blondes pretty much always get the VIP white glove treatment, verbal warnings and maybe a phone number.

I'm going to go with "Driving While Black" in this context.

I'm Filipino. The only thumbs up I get are from the brothers. Older black women get all moist when they see my car.

"Radar detectors are illegal in CA?"

No they are not but mounting shit on your windshield is. There is some bs law that has to do with driver/occupant safety being compromised by mounting or placing unsecured objects on your windshield.

I've got pretty much the same story, but on the other end of the state.
My wife and I are cruising down Highway 5, we only had the V Wagon for a month or so at that point. I catch a glimpse of a CHP in a really good hiding place, too late to slow so I just maintain the 80mph or so I was cruising at. As I'm watching him in the mirror, sure enough he pulls onto the freeway and starts coming up slowly behind us. He's just hanging back, probably running the plate figuring I'm a drug dealing thug or something since our V is black. Finally he pulls into the other lane and comes up alongside us. I look over figuring he's gonna be giving me the "slow down" message over his PA, and what's he doing instead? Smiling and giving me a big thumbs up! I can see he's saying "Nice car". I thought the same thing, I almost wanted to bury the throttle on that thing and let him hear that blower whine, but also thought it might not be the wisest thing to do.

Must be something about the CHP's and V's. My wife was doing like 90 in a 65 and was pulled over by another CHP. She thought for sure he was gonna write her a big fat ticket. So what does he do? Writes her a fixit ticket for no front plate! We taped the plate on the front bumper, got it signed off and it didn't cost a dime! The front plate mysteriously fell off in the driveway when we got home.

Ahhhh.

That looks nice a clean. I take it you hard wired the power source to something behind the mirror? That mount also looks likes it's designed specifically for the Valentine. I've been looking for something similar for the Passport but I'm not having much luck.

I like mine higher. Incognito. Use a new suction cup mount and it will never dislodge...

the only thumbs up I get are the ones I give myself in the mirror :(
