View Full Version : HELP! 1999 SLS Coolant leak
I'm a weekend mechanic... I had a coolant leak and was told that I should replace the water pump. I did (very easy installation). Now it appears that I have a leak further back (towards transmission). I crawled under car but could not find the source. Please advise what in this area would leak coolant and can a weekend mechanic repair it?
Where "towards the transmission"? Between the engine and firewall? Or by the trans on the drivers side?
If I had to guess, the way the fluid gathers, I would say by the transmission on drivers side

Water crossover gasket(s) or heater circuit supply quick disconnect fitting. Maybe a leaking throttlebody heater coolant fitting - part of the coolant purge flow system pre-2000.
Wow! Thanks. Is this labor intensive?
Oohhh yeah! The crossover manifold that is. That said, the '99's are not known for it like the 2000+ engines.
I'll check it out. Thank you guys for your help! Really appreciate it. After installing the new water pump, I thought I was home free. Oh, well...
