I've read about digital music changers to replace the old 12 disc changer. They connect directly into the auxiliary plug for the disc changer. Has anyone tried this? I got a 97 sts, and I'd like to have thousands of songs on a digital drive opposed to burning a bunch of CDs...

Sure.
That is a "Walmart special" Seagate 320GB USB2 hard drive for ~$30.
Now the head unit it plugs into is another story over here (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-audio-video-security-systems/282011-02-etc-going-big.html).

Only thing to be aware of having worked in IT for awhile is that usb powered hard disk drives tend to be subject to disk corruption. Power over USB can damage drives, it'd be bomb if they were SSD's

Exactly.
And $30 for a test is not bad. The HD just started acting up after a month of use.
Have a USB2 SSD in mind? I have yet to search one out.
