Hi, there
does anybody know how fast the new V will go?
As I see on pics, it has the same speedo in it than the STS.
The Cts v got the 180 mph or 300 kph in it, so im wondering!
I hope it`s not limited to 155 mph as all the big german cars!

As of the moment there are no plans to limit the top speed. There are no official numbers on this but rumors are that the STS-V test mules were reported to have maintained 168mph for some fairly long stretches on the autobahn during testing at the Nurburgring. This in't a "downhill with a tail wind" type of number, either. Good stuff. :D

165 MPH sticks out in my mind for some reason. It's no 186, but at least it's faster than the Germans.

The February issue of Car & Driver says that the top speed will be 165 mph.

Why are you guys so concerned with Top Speed? I think 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are more important. Besides the Germans are electronically limited to 155mph.

Hi Reckamech,
top speedis very important for me s a german!!!!
I know the speed limit almost anywhere in the us, beside montana don`t make it so important for you.
I use t drive my cars fast, so I do with my DTS on the autobahn when its not to much traffic mostly between 160-210 kph (100-130mph)
My XLR tops 265 kph and I usualy drive the car in the range 160-265 kph
(100-165 mph)
And you can believe I love my 02 C5 Vette on the autobahn, fastest I`ve had it wa 304 kph thats 190 mph.
So, thats why top speed is important for me!

I forgot to say my DTS is limited top speed 130 mph, the XLR and Vette has no limiter.

Harry, I hate to say it but there is nowhere left in the U.S. where it is legal to speed. Montana has repealed it's "reasonable and prudent" speed law (May 28, 1999.) I believe 80MPH (128.7kph) is now the top legal speed in the country (in Arizona.) :(

Skfurr,

so you cant imagene how it is to go a trip like from wuerzburg to duesseldorf that`s 350 km (220miles) in 1hour and forty minutes.
If you ever come to germany you can do a little drive with my (than propably a new C6) on the autobahn. I`m sure you will love it and see than how fast a Vette really is.
Thanks

i have a question for the STS-V folks out there.
i was reading about the STS-V in car and driver when i saw their "estimates" for 1/4 mile and 0-60 mph times. 0-60 is estimated to be around 4.9 seconds, while the 1/4 mile will be around 13.8 seconds...again, this is a C/D estimate.

what gives on the 1/4 mile times? seems to me that a 120 hp supercharged jump should shave more than 4 tenths of a second off of the times. the base STS is around 14.2-14.4 seconds. the STS-V will be around the high 13 second range acording to C/D. something doesn't seem right about these estimates. perhaps they made a typo and meant 12.8 seconds?

what are your thoughts?

Face it, all these performance specs are just fodder for the bech-racing crowd. Guys just like to brag, that's all. Yours will do 150? Heh, mine will do 160! You know it's true, so don't bother denying it. And just how many of you will ever get to see that top end? I'll bet maybe 5% of all owners will maybe get somewhere close. It's like guys that buy Hummers. How many will even ever go off-road, let alone anything challenging to the truck. Most, and I DO mean MOST people will never explore the outer-most reaches of their car's capabilities. In my book that's a good thing too, since most people can't drive worth a damn. I can't tell you how many guys I run into that think that just because they can afford to buy a hot car, they can DRIVE it. El-wrongo!
This is why I think it's kind of funny when people start knit-picking about tint differences in performance of one car and another. It's not like they're ever going to really race it, or get anywhere near the figures that the magazines publish. Not to say that it can't be done, I know it can. I've done it myself, and seen some others do it too. It's just not very common.

Doubt you'll see any STS-V's doing 12's. Who knows though. As soon as one actually gets a real road test, we'll have a better feel for it. Better yet, I like to see what they do at the track myself. In my book, that's the true test of any car. Talk all you want. Quote all the test data you want. Bottom line, take it to the track and see for youself. It'll be fun to see if anybody here actually posts a slip on one.

Hi guys, My 94 STS Northstar did 220 km/h (137 mph) in less than 21 seconds easily and also from 0-100km (0-60 mph) in 8.1 seconds, and I feel it could do better if it is tested on a proffessional terrain. I just tested it with 1 passenger beside me and on a normal highway. (no limit in Lebanon).

Hi Elie.
I had the 94 Northstar STS in1994, I get it top speed to 258 km/h (161 mph) by
speedo. 0 - 100 km took me 7.0 sec. - Was damn good that time!!! (export model had no speed-limiter).

As Katshot said, I doubt we will see the V dipping into the 12's. I expect a solid mid 13's time, but we will see.

The allure to this car will be the handling and the 0 to 60 time with the gobs of low end torque for US driving. Us US guys can only be totally jealous of Harry doing 130 on a consistant basis.

Harry, next time I am in Germany, I am looking you up. I always wanted to open up a Caddy or Vette on the Autobahn! :burn:

Hi Kadonny.
yes I´m sure you will enjoy it. I never drive in the 60-80 mph range like the US speed-limit is unless heavy traffic. My cars must run and over the years I only had good experience with my Cadillac`s or Vette`s. With the speed-limit you have in the US you really don`t know how good these cars are running in the 100 - 160 range or Vette up to 180mph.

Having been to Germany several times in the last ten years, I can say that the open road is getting less and less open.

Stretches of road with unlimited speed are not as common as they once were. And the wrecks there are horrendous.

If you rent a car there, chances are that it will not be stable at the speeds you want to go. I had a Volvo S60 there two years ago. The front end would start to lift around 210 Kph.

While driving south from Dortmund holding around 195, I was passed by two turbo Carrera's chasing each other. In a flash, I saw xenon lights in my mirror then their tail lights ahead of me. They could have been doing better than 250 - 260.

If you exceed the posted speed, they take your picture and send it to you (along with notification of you fine)

So, we'll have to go visit Harry and drive the autobahns.

Hi Tony,
yes, you are right, the traffic here is getting heavier and heavier. But we still got some autobahn-parts where you really can see whats in your car.
The "red-flahes" we only have on roads up to 100 km, thats 62 mph.
On the autobahn I only know 3 in germany and thats on big downhills where for trucks is only allowed 60 km (35 mph) and cars 100 km (62 mph)

I would like to take your CTS V for a test-drive here, I love this car but GM won`t bring it over as anexport-model.
Thanks

What is the overall feeling amongst the German people about Cadillac's comeback into the luxury/performance segment. Do they love Cadillac's like Harley-Davidson's?

Harry,

What is the overall feeling amongst the German people about Cadillac's comeback into the luxury/performance segment. Do they love Cadillac's like Harley-Davidson's?Hi DG2,
Cadillac still got some to do! With its downsizing in the 80s like 4.1 litre and 135 horses you could almost laugh about Cadillac. In our family we bought the first Cadillac 1989 (a white Fleetwood), had 4.5 litre and 155 horses.
The second was a 1990 (red Fleetwood) with 4.5 litre and 180 horses.
I can now go on and on because since 89 we bought here in germany 8 new Cadillacs ( Fleetwood - Eldorado - STS - DeVille Concour - DTS - XLR) and with all these cars we had beside real little things, no problems. And as you see from the 80s the engines got more and more power and the quality got better and better.
Cadillac is on the right direction right now, and what they mostly need is an entrance model like the new BTS. The market here in germany is for foreign luxury car makers the hardest in the world. Lexus is selling here from the LS 430 only a few hundred, and the same is with the V8 Cadillac`s.
Now, the Kroymans-Group, which is general-importer for Cadillac-Europe want
to bring the sales-numbers up to 10.000 by 2010.
I wish Cadillac the best.

Especially with the exchange rate. Not too long ago I paid $0.80 per euro, now it's the other way around.

Just to get further off track on this thread, when I went to the Dortmund stadium two years ago, I thought that I was in Pittsburgh watching a Steelers game - black and gold everywhere and everyone was plastered from pre-game drinking.

Does your daughter have any interest to date an "older guy"? :) Just teasing.

Which of those 4 wheel scooters is the most fun on the Autobahn ?

As far as performance, I kinda like highway passing acceleration from say 70 thru 100. It sure is nice being able to blow by the moron driving down the highway at the "speed limit" in the left lane w/ no one in front of him. Sometimes they (the morons) speed up when you want to pass or there isn't enough time/distance to make a safe pass...unless...you can do it with them "standing still" from your cars performance. Ah....less frustration and performance satifaction at the same time....almost makes me appreciate the Morons!:)

Lux Euro sedans are more popular for doing this in deluxe comfort than racing some kids Z28 off the stop light after pulling out of the local Sonic burger hop.

You still doubting, Kat? Read any of the recent posts about STS-V times on cars right off the street...??

The STS-V is electronically limited at 155 MPH. That is the politically correct answer in production. I'm supprised that non of the STS-V owners have picked up on that yet....you would have thunk they would have tached it out once or twice to see....LOL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the STS-V have an adaptable transmission that gauges the driving habits of the driver? With that, once the tranny is acclimated to the driver, it should go faster in the quarter, right?

If so, a 12.8 or a 12.9 in the real world should be attainable I would think.

From the video alone I'd say a high 12 would be possible with some sticky tires and a real cool day.

i would think someone will get a 12.9 soon enough. This is a good time a year to take it to the track. If i had zero tire lose it would be possible even if the adaptable transmission doesn't make that much of a differences. It is an awesome car.
