: Looking for advice...2004 Escalade ESV

I currently own a 2004 CTS and I LOVE IT! I have the opportunity to purchase an 04 Escalade ESV. It has the normal wear for a 2004 with some minor cosmetic defects. Carfax report is clean and shows regular maintenance at a reputable cadillac dealer in my home town. My only fear is it has 216.000 miles! Dealer has told me that the previous owner (I would be the third) drove from Indiana to Tennessee frequently for business. The second owner purchased it in 2007 from the original owner with 16,000 miles on it. So, he roughly put 30,000 miles per year on the vehicle. I don't mean to go on, I just want you to have enough info to advise me. Engine compartment is clean and I see no leaks or indication of any. Has anyone ever dealt with an Escalade with this many miles. Price is at 8,200 now but I am hoping to negotiate to get that down a little farther. Husband crawled under it and said he thought he may have seen a tiny bit of transmission fluid. Obviously, I will have my mechanic look at it before I decide anything. Just hoping to gain some insight here. This would be a third vehicle so not a daily driver. We would use it only when the kids are home and we all want to go together. Look forward to hearing your opinions on the mileage. THANKS!

I like my vehicles with under 100K when I pick them up. I start getting a little concerned at 200K+ miles.

They are great vehicles but there are quite a few expensive things that can go wrong especially when your mileage starts creeping up. Personally I'd be afraid of the tranny, front differential, and transfer case at that mileage. If you really want one maybe spend about another $5K and pick one up with closer to 100K miles.

Also, ask the dealer to pull the maintenance/repair history for this vehicle. You should see any maintenance and repairs done by GM. It might give you a clue if there are other problems you can't see with the vehicle (electrical, etc).

Wake my 03 has 16000 miles and I haven't had a problem with the tranny I am hoping to get 200,000 or more miles on it before I retire it
I agree on the dealer service history it shows that the previous owner did or didn't care for the truck (the previous owner did care for mine before I got it)

I agree(I am doing the same on a third gen body style escalade it may be a while but it will be worth the wait)

Thank you all for the input. After reading this, and this morning, consulting with the dealership that completed
the maintenance on it. I have decided to forgo the 2004 Escalade. I will admit, I am a little sad, as I really
loved the idea of owning one to go with my CTS (Iggabella). But I do agree that it will be worth the wait to find one with far less miles on it, for just a few thousand dollars more. So glad I found this forum! Thanks again!

you could have it shipped open trailer pretty cheap. i might be able to go see it for you...it depends how far it is from my house. i have 6 mos old twins..so if it's within an hour...i'd go check it out for you. let me know.
if not...their are 3rd party companies that will go check out cars for you...i used one for an Avalanche i almost bought in Arizona.
Again..you can be patient..they do show up if you keep an eye out.

just found this in Indianapolis:

It's been my experience..if he's asking $10,200...show up with $8500 cash...hard to say no to a fistful of dollars

There are so many out there, so be patient and keep looking. Mine just fell in my lap. An 03, 57,000 miles, perfect condition inside and out for $14500. I also agree about the cash buy.
