My 1977 deville has been parked for at least 8 years. When I picked it up, it ran good and such. When i first turned it on every day, the compressor would howl and growl for at least a minute, and shut off. I never felt the car go up or down.

Now, after 3 months of driving, the compressor never comes on. One day, me and my friends piled in the car. two in the back (about 500lbs) and me and another in the front (about 450lbs). so we pretty much had the cadillacs suspension in the rear at 1/2 the rated capacity of 1000ish lbs.

When I hit the gas hard at a stop sign (only on 2 barrel carb, secondaries were stuck shut), the suspension in the back when whack, and the car made a move like I was doing a wheelie, but i knew it was impossible. 180Hp engine on 4 barrels running on the tiny primaries, going through a powertrain that does 60Mph @ 4000rpms, not a lot of torque at the rear axle going 2mph.

Im wondering if my air shocks in the back are dead. Or is the compressor dead? The cars compressor never came on when 1/2 ton of people piled in my car.

I didnt know they had air ride on them back then...but I would say you probably need a compressor and new shocks in the back

Cadillac developed air ride back in 1955, just a little fact.
