ShadowLvr400 01-04-05, 09:18 AM Need to know the car and year. If it's an 89, OBD1. Really, anything before 96 is almost certainly going to be an OBD1. Anything afterward will be OBD2. Scottie in Alabama 01-04-05, 09:19 AM It's the 89 Brougham d'Elegance. Thanks Scottie in Alabama 01-04-05, 09:24 AM The damn check engine light won't go off. The car starts and runs great some sputtering on really cold mornings. I changed the O2 about 2 months ago and now the light wont go off. Before it would come on at start up and then seem to go off when the car warmed up. Is it possible the system was so clogged that it has clogged up the new O2 as well? But no stalls though. ShadowLvr400 01-04-05, 09:42 AM In the 89, you're OBD 1, no questions. As for the O2 sensor, that's possible, could be something else too. MAF could be dirty (if the 89 has one, not sure) could be dirty cats, the sensor in the exhaust can be touchy. Trying to think of the stuff my buddy had with his 89 Brougham. Can I have the Cat's taken off, will people still do that? BlueDeVil 01-06-05, 07:57 AM Obd I is really easy to read. You can do it with a paper clip even. All you have to do is create a jumper between the top two left most holes in the DIN. Then your Service Engine Soon light will blink in a certian series to give you the codes. I can't remeber the series exactly right now but it boils down to counting the lights. I think 8 times then 6 times makes 86 and signals the start of the diagnostics mode. I acctually had them do this at Auto Zone and the guy gave me a little metal key to do it myself in the future. This was before I had my 'Lac and could use the climate control to read my codes. BlueDeVil 01-06-05, 10:01 AM It's standard on DeVilles 81 to 85 (I think) Thats weird, I thought all OBD I cars did that. At Autozone, I don't even think they have any other way to read OBD I codes. They just use those Key things. | |
