I'm halfway through my engine swap on the 98 Cat! It's nice to see some progress.
Does anyone know whether the tranny and motor can be installed as one piece or if I have to lift the tranny into place once the motor is installed? That's how the service manual suggests but I think it might be easier as one piece if everything will fit through the engine bay.
I didn't remove the tranny myself. The shop that diagnosed the spun bearing did that but I will be putting it all back together myself this week.

Id do it the way the manual suggests, it looks quite tight down there against the firewall.

I think it can be done as one piece. You will need the ability to tilt the engine quite a bit. I was going to try that method, but didn’t have enough room in front of the car to roll the engine hoist around. I ended up just putting it in from the bottom. It really wasn’t that much trouble.
