Got a problem.... my trunk latches but the the trunk wont automatically pull down, which leaves about a 1 inch gap in between the trunk and the body. Any suggestions?

SOunds like the pull down motor is gone, or there's an electrical problem. I would check out the circuit and test the motor. I have heard of others who manually lowered the latch to its closed position and lived with a broken system, operating it manually (like the old days), instead of reoplacing the motor or other broken parts.

that wouldnt be a problem, i dont care for the electric motor (or the cost to replace it either). if i can figure out how to lower the latch to the closed position it would be fine.

My 78 had the unit break but I couldn't get the bottom piece to stay down, I had to tack weld it so it became a normal trunk..

Do a search. There are a bunch of posts around about it.

This happened to me once and I pulled a plug near the latch and plugged it back in. I guess doing this reset the latch.
