hello, I've aquired a predator carb that I'm going to install on my 500 sometime in the spring.
caddycarlo: you ran one... do you still run a predator? if not, why? was the stock fuel pump able to keep up?
has anyone else tried one? any problems or any other bits of information that may be useful?

Id try and sell the carb
They dont seem to ever work right on the street and im unsure why.
Get yourself a stock Q jet of a pre 79 cadillac or the holley of your choice and bite the bullet.
Just my oppinion
I used a 5000 series predator on my rear engine dragster, with a 500, the season before last. It worked very well, not nearly the tuning nightmare I was led to expect, unfortunatly many parts are no longer available for the "old" predator, (gaskets and such) I didn't find this out until I had purchased the $60.00 o'hual kit for the "new" 6000 series carb.( I still have it out in the shop, in my "stuff I got burned on, but can't trash" pile) I looked at the price of the 6000 series, new, and decided to go back to a much modified, but reliable 950 Holley, best run to date is 9.71@145MPH 1/4, and 6.15 @ 109 MPH 1/8th.
The old series was very hard to make work well on the street, power was great, but the economy sucked, my application was race only, (1500 RPM idle,WOT,launching on the foot brake. 1.20 sec 60 foot, new appreciation for low end torque) the new series (6000) has an idle circut and vacuum port, so it is much more "street friendly" and the user board is very helpful with tuning.
Good luck, Paul AKA RED caddy

I was looking around at Predator posts on the forum and I saw an old post that you had and you said you had one of the old 5000 series Predator carbs that you had laying around. I've been looking for one I want to try and do mods to and see if I can get those things to run better. If you still have it, give me a call....541-231-9727...Richard
