: CUE system turns off while driving

I just purchased a new 2013 ATS Premium 3.6. While driving, the CUE system randomly reboots/turns off and on (the display goes black) for approx. 8 seconds. When the display returns, the Waypoint I programmed into the CUE starts recalculating. In addition, without waypoint turn by turn programmed into the CUE the system, the display randomly blacks out and returns. Moreover, I pushed a turn by turn to the ATS via my Galaxy S3 to no avail..when I started the car, the turn by turn started downloading and never completed..I tried the same turn by turn with my Asus tablet and the iPad 4 to no avail. I was forced to call Onstar to re-push the turn by turn. I am discovering numerous issues although I thought I would start with the basics.

This is an all over CUE system issue. I have experienced the same issue in 2 other ATS system 3.6 models I am sharing to affirm that Cadillac is aware.

That doesn't sound good. I bet there is a software glitch. I have approximately 2600 miles on my car. Now and have only had 1 CUE problem - 1 reboot. It took a few seconds, but nothing major. I'd take it to the dealer and see what they say.

The dealer has stated that a major software update is coming although I am concerned that Cadillac might be more interested in adding features while overlooking current numerous bugs. I talked with one of the designers last year at the CES show and stated that I was concerned with the SD card update process to fix future bugs. An OTA update should have been included. This would eliminate constant service visits, especially of this magnitude.

Don't let your dealer talk you into a simple software update....you have a major short or electronic board problem with your CUE....The majority of us have absolutely NO rebooting or CUE problems like the one your are describing. Insist they correct and replace or take it to another dealer that will. What you are reporting is NOT normal and should be rectified.

We have over 5 thousand miles on our ATS with no CUE issues at all.

Known bug with CUE (from CUE Issues Forum): putting car in reverse while downloading, triggering back-up camera, causes unrecoverable route download stall. Any chance that was your situation? Bug fix for download is thought to be part of the Feb-Mar updates. Workaround is to wait for download to complete before engaging reverse.

FYI, I have the occasional reboot as well -- maybe two, three times in a couple of months -- also on a 3.6 premium. While I have no evidence to support this, given the generally poor software QA of CUE, I'm willing to bet on software probs as trigger for reboots.

I have a hunch that the next big patch will fix most of the major bugs. I doubt Cadillac is going to focus on adding more features until the existing ones are a little more solid. I plan on buying an early 2014 model later this year, and I expect the software to be really clean by then.

Thanks Kevinr. The putting car in reverse...was the process. I spoke with the GM ATS product specialist last week and he stated that there is a LARGE software update due in the next 3 weeks. The update will require a reformat of the current system. I am not concerned about losing my settings at this point, I am looking forward to CUE performance and stability.

This.

CUE is Cadillac's baby and they'll try their hardest to get all the glitches worked out on current cars as well as new models...

It also happened twice to me already, both times in navigation mode.

Kind of a nuisance - it takes a few minutes before the system boots up again and navigation resumes.

But I am hoping for the SW update, rather than a replacement unit. I expect that more users will experience the same.

I can understand how that would be aggravating, blue_skies. I'm documenting your feedback where the appropriate GM teams can see it, and please email me anytime you would like me to document additional comments, etc. (I'm reachable at Katie_Lucille@gmexpert.com!)

When will the 2014 ATS be able to be ordered...not sure if I want the first model year,,since what I'm reading on these forums is making me second guess my wanting to own a 2013 ATS...love the looks of this car, but do not want to be constantly having problems.

MY2014 will just be MY2013 with FW updates for the CUE.

All '13 and '14 models will receive same updates, eventually.

skip000,

Although it is subject to change, right now I'm seeing that production on the 2014 ATS will start up in June of this year. I would suggest staying in touch with your local dealership for updates on when orders can be placed (if you would like for us to provide a list of nearby dealerships we're happy to do so).

The only time I have seen Cue reset itself during driving was while I was visiting LA from San Diego. Perhaps a change in map files causes a reset.

My CUE nav was screwed up when I first brought the car home and gave it a try. I went on vacation for a week and when I got home and tried it again it was still messed up. The GPS had me in a town about 20-30 miles away. Went back to the dealer and they rebooted everything and it was good. A few days later on my way to Chicago, CUE goes dark but the radio keeps running. The Nav pops back up and it's all screwed up again with me in a town around 30 miles away. I did notice that there was a symbol that said the GPS signal was blocked/missing, but Its gone now and nav is still screwed up. I just don't want the nav to go out when I'm somewhere unfamiliar and am relying on it.
