Ok, so I have about 184K on my 2004 Escalade ESV (Yes it's the family workhorse). My transmission shifts from 1st gear to 2nd gear with no issues but when switching from 2nd to 3rd gear, I have to rev it hard to switch to 3rd. Once I'm in 3rd gear it stays in 3rd and I cant go more than 40mph. My wife took it to a shop and the mechanic test drove it and said my tranny needs a rebuild with a quote of $1600. I just need a second opinion because I've priced rebuild kits ranging from $250-$500 and just cant imagine labor being $1100-$1350.

I need some feedback before I start spending money

Thanks.

Although the price of a rebuild kit is very low, yes the cost of experienced labor when it comes to rebuilding a transmission is what costs money. Honestly, $1600 sounds a little low to me. I would not expect to get quality work for that price. I do live in southern California so fair market price might be a little higher here.

Ok thanks for your input. I guess it's time to pay the piper.

I have one other question....what it be easier to just swap in a new/rebuilt transmission?
