: Splash Guards

I know most of you don't like mud flaps / splash guards but I still wanted to try them so what I did was paint them to match the color of the car ( Black diamond tricoat ) and they turned out the exact same color of the car and they look great on the car. They look like they are part of the body style.

Anyway I took them off to see if I could make it a little different and wanted to post a couple of pictures to get some feedback.

One is without the cadillac symbol and the other with it to see which way I should go.

Let me know what you think, with the symbol or without or place it in a different place on the splash guard. Once I get some ideas and if I leave it on it, I will add a few more clear costs over the symbol.

Thanks,
Tom

My opinion is in favor of without. I think the emblem draws too much attention to a piece you are trying to blend and not noticeable.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking after looking it in the pictures. When I first placed it on there, I thought it looked good but after taking the pictures, I see what you mean.

Thanks

Leaving the emblem draws attention. Don't do it, my opinion. You need flaps in Cali???

LOL... I know what you mean about living in California but this year has been raining a lot and I keep washing the car 2 to 3 times a week just to keep the mud off the car.
Plus there is a lot of construction going on around home and work with water and mud so of course with my luck, I drive through it almost every day and when I get to work and see the sides of the car, I just want to wash it then but I have to wait until after work.

Where did you buy them? I could not locate a pair any where

Here, in the UK splash guards, or mud flaps, as they are known here are really necessary in the rural areas. I got mine from our one and only Cadillac dealer in Manchester.
GM Part 17802090 rear
GM Part 17802089 front.

That's the same part numbers here also

So you are saying, that splash guards that claim to fit 2008-9 only, fit your 13?

My vote, w/o emblem.

Yes, they fit perfect.

Yes, they fit perfect.

I had them installed but took them off to paint and as soon as I get them back on, I'll post a pic.

After thinking about it, when I go to put them back on, I'll double check to make sure the dealer didn't drill new holes to make them fit. I know for sure the rear one s fit perfect, when I got to the front, it was getting dark outside so I removed the screws in the dark.

They are for the sedan. The coupe only comes in LHD build, a shame because I would love one.

I spoke to the mech that installed mine and he said he had to trim the front ones to make them fit but the rear he didn't have to trim.
He did a professional job because I couldn't tell they were cut.
I just hope I get the front ones back on the same way because it is a tight fit. If not, I'll just have him put the front back on.

I would like to do this myself. I will await your photos with them back on your car to see what they look like on the car.

I'd go without the emblems. Do you have pics of when they were on the car? I'd really like to see how they looked on the car.

No I didn't take any pics before but I should be able to get them back on this weekend so I will post pics then.

Cool. I'm looking at these, I'd just like to see them on a car before I pull the trigger on a purchase.

Local dealer and ebay says the part numbers on this tread does not fit 2010 sedan. Can't figure why they would not fit

The only thing that needs to be modified is the front to allow for the rocker panels. It looks like he removed about an inch so he didn't have to drill new holes.
I didn't get them back on yet due to knee problems making it a little difficult to get down that low. I'm still going to try even though I'll pay the price with a night of pain.

Didn't the rocker configuration change in 10 or 11?

I finally was able to get them back on the car. I think I should have gone darker with the color but it'll have to do for now.

xltman, your mailbox is full.

I used part # 17802089 & 17802090.

The rear flaps fit perfect without any mods but the front has to be modified. If you mod it, you won't have to drill new holes.
I installed them on my 2013 CTS Premium.

They work great and just what I needed with all the construction going on around my business.

I'm going to repaint them to get the color to match the car. When I painted them, I was in a hurry to get them back on the car so I didn't take the time to make sure they matched the car black diamond tricoat.

Why would there be no mud guard for 2010 CTS when other year models do?

No guards for 2010, and on. Not just 2010.

As reported in other threads, my 2010 Premium AWD wagon has them and I don't see where they were modified (I bought used). They really do help and I would recommend trying them out! Mine look just like Akamai43 shown above. CTS molded into them, but no part number.

Part # 17802090 & 17802080. I believe these are for 09 & 10.
I had to modify the front because mine is a 2013 with the side skirt. The rear fit perfect.

Don't forget to use SEM adhesion promoter before priming and painting. Otherwise it will flack off.

Almost forgot, use SEM flex primer after SEM adhesion promoter.

My local dealer said 2009 splash guard would fit BETTER so I'm going to take a risk even if they have to cut slightly or have small gap. Stay tuned.. Will post picture

Based on what I have read on this thread, I just ordered the front ones for my 2012 coupe. Despite the little piece of plastic installed by Cadillac on the forward portion of the rear fender bulge, the rock chips are starting to show up:mad: Hopefully the front splash guards will help minimize the chips. Do you think the rear ones will fit the rear of the coupe?

akamai43
08-03-13, 08:35 PM
Max, the pictures are the ones for the rear. The ones for the front, work really well but you need to modify them to actually fit but I like the way they turned out on the front.
The rear guards are just install and go.

Akami43,
What model of CTS do you have? The reason for the question is, I have The Premium model 2010 CTS AWD Sportswagon which may have a slightly different rocker panel shape from the Luxury or Performance models. Out of curiosity, I went down to the dealer to see if he had the 2009 splash guards in stock to check out the fit but no, they were available for $50 but had to be special ordered. If your fitting success with the 2009 splash guards was to a Premium model, I might go ahead and place an order for the rears. I hate getting all of the winter crud all over the rear.

Harley03joe,
Did you ever complete your intent to installing splash guards on you Premium 2012 CTS?

akamai43
12-19-13, 12:12 AM
I don't see why they wouldn't fit the 2009 model. I have the 2013 CTS Sedan RWD Premium and when I bought them, it came with instructions that showed the years they fit and 2009 was part of the list. It didn't say any specifics like luxury, performance etc.

I just installed rear splash guards on my 2010 CTS Wagon. The are a perfect fit with exception of the fastener hole alignment. You have to drill three new holes for each splash guard after removing the original fixture tabs.
It will require removing the wheel for access to drill and install the screws. Process took me one hour to install the two guards. Purchsed GM part # 17802090 for $45 with free shipping on Ebay. The splash guards only come in black and my car is white. Since they are close proximity to the tires, black doesn't look bad on a white car.

Thanks Forum members for this valuable discussion and resource. I just took ownership of a 2010 CTS4 Sport Wagon in Red (Replacing an Audi A4 Avant Quattro wagon. CTS passed my expectations). I can see that the body panels will be subject to road debris and sand kicked up by the tires. My local dealer parts guy here in CA said splash guards were not made or available for CTS models. I will pick up a set pronto.

Using the GM Part #s 17802090 & 17802080, I ordered front and rear splash guards for my 2010 CTS4 Premium Sport Wagon from e-Bay. My local auto paint dealer mixed up some Crystal Red (claret) spray paint for me and some SEM flex primer. He did not list a red tint coat so I used a flex clearcoat.

Rear splash guards fit perfectly. Front ones only needed a tweak to match the corner radius of the lower rocker panel (about 1/4 inch. As you can see, I drilled 4 (3 + an extra) new holes to mount the fronts. color-matched looks good on the Wagon.
