It's time to make a decision on XM as as my 3 month trial is over next week. What's the best rate everyone is getting? Want to add a second vehicle, any multi car discounts? Thanks.

If you call and threaten to cancel, you can probably get it for arond $95. Did that in December for my HHR. I am reaching the end of the three months on our 13 SRX, and will have to call again and hassle with them. 888-539-7474 is the direct line to the cancellation department, or at least that is what I have written down. Hope this helps.

I just threatened to cancel because I am selling my car within the next 6 months and they wanted $90 for 6 months. When I said "cancel", they gave me 6 months for $45.

After my 3 months were up XM wanted to put me *Edit* on a one year contract at the rate of $165.00 + taxes. Of course I stated that I wanted to cancel. I told them I wasn't keeping my SRX for more than 6 mths and didn't need a year contract. I also told them that I could just use my Pandora app. That is when they started to offer me a better rate. I also told them I wanted to keep the weather info too. *I found that I really enjoy viewing the great new "live" Doppler radar feature that comes with the weather on the CUE especially with all the bad weather coming in and out during our winter season.

The cost quickly came down from $165.00 a year to approx. $89 for a year but again I told them I was going to either trade or sell my SRX in ... so they offered me another special package for around $49 for 6 months. However, all of a sudden they offered me another package with weather for only $39.95 for just 5 months. I agreed and took that package!

Don't ask me how they figure out their packages... seems to me the prices changes with each different scenario. :cookoo:

XM is like Tivo; they are getting squeezed by newer technologies and packages from other sources. They try to sell at "list", but they'll do literally anything to stave off a cancellation.

What newer TiVo technology are you referring to? I would love to get rid of yet another annual fee with my TiVo.

I have a TiVo series 2 that I purchased a lifetime subscription for. I'm not sure but it's worth checking to see if you can find 1 of these. There is at least 1 place that sells modified units, and you may be able to skip the monthly fee. It's been a while since I've looked at this site, but there's alot of good info here. http://www.digitalrecorder.com

Can they remotely update your POI for your Nav? I just got 2010SRX Nav replaced by the dealer, the POI's are off

I just squeezed them for a 6 month promo that was under $40. It was some email people got, I just said I got the email and they gave it to me. Now, in 6 months, I might be in trouble but it got me by for the mean time. I think XM is overpriced but I do really enjoy it so I'm not willing to give it up.

Thanks for the update. I want to cancel XM when it expires at the end of March. I don't want any automatic bills to come for something I'm not using. I use Pandora primarily.

How did they put you on a "standard contract" after your three months trial period? How did they get your CC?

How did they put you on a "standard contract" after your three months trial period? How did they get your CC?Sorry Mike, I miss spoke I should have stated that XM wanted me to enroll for one year after my trial period had ended on my CC at the rate of $165.00 + $10.00 in taxes. Which would then be automatically renewed and charged to my cc at the end of one year.

XM is a total ripoff. I have MOG (MOG.com) and I pay $9.99/month for it and the things I can do with it are amazing. So what that I need to plug in my cell phone to Aux-In. It's worth it to stream at 320 kbps anything my heart desires. XM repeats the same old crap over and over again. It's worse than a commercial radio station. What a racket they have going! I need to start my own business if people will pay for this kind of crap.

WOW ... Steve calm down a little bit there buddy ... Whew :hmm:

IMO: XM is not worse than AM or FM, for heavens sake their commercials are almost non-stop . Yes, I like XM and Pandora too the price is way less than your $9.99 a month too. One of the best features I like with XM is their new "live" Doppler radar on their weather link. I also like that it gives you traffic reports i.e. accidents and road work ahead etc. You might not think it is worth the money but many of us do like XM! :)

Mark,

I don't pay for all those XM "extras" like Doppler radar. My smartphone gives it to me for free as well as the traffic reports, etc... Buy yourself a Samsung Galaxy Note II and you'll see what I mean. By the way, I'm not "simmering". I just state it all upfront like I see it. I see no need to sugar coat anything on here. We're all adults.

I like viewing it on the huge NAV screen and I do like the traffic and weather alerts. Yes I have an iPhone that has that app on it too but be honest you certainly can't drive and easily review the small screens on our cell phones.

FYI: I had edited my verbiage to say "calm down" instead. ;) You seem to believe that because you think it is a waste of your money or time you don't think anyone should want it too. BTW: My name is Marc with a "c". LOL

Marc (with a 'c'),

I think it's great that you love your NAV screen for traffic and weather alerts. But if you'd bothered to have looked up the Samsung Galaxy Note II specs before posting, you would have found it has a 5.5" screen, a far cry from the "tiny" iPhone screen.

I'm very calm when I write on here. You fan boys just don't get it that some of us don't LOVE GM and it's issues when compared to other experiences some of us have had with other brands. I don't wish ill will on anyone on here. My Caddy experience hasn't been the talk of lore.

I have to say I've just jumped ship from XM since their latest screwing me around for the last six months on billing. I'm done with them for now.

I hope you didn't give them a credit card number or you may be in for some big surprises. This is precisely the reason I use Discover Card for their secure account numbers. I cancel the secure account number w/o having to cancel my real credit card number. Good luck Capt'n.

Just got off the phone with XM since our 13's trial was running out in a few days. Just told them I wanted to cancel because the time we spent in the car didn't justify the full year's price. They immediately offered a 50% priced reduction. Ended up costing $96.75 for a year of just the music. That is including all royalty fees and applicable taxes. Could have added the traffic nav and weather for $21 more, but we would never use it. As long as we can get it for %50 off we will keep it. When they make us pay full price, it is gone.

If you listen to the 'refeed' stations on XM (ones they 'rebroadcast' from terrestrial) or 20s on 20, then they do repeat. But they have a huge library and claim to have software that PREVENTS a repeat of any song on the same station in a 3 day period...
Basically what you are getting when you try and cancel is the 'multi-receiver' discount. I have 5 or 6 receivers, and I would never give up any of them. I think its great that people get a 50% discount, but not going to fight it on my primary, when I get 5 others at the 50% off price...

FWIW I like my XM enough to keep paying for it when the trial ran out. While some may go the free app route, I prefer the integration with my radio to any external device. The traffic and weather is a bit of a novelty for me, but I'm keeping it for now. There are plenty of folks who say they won't pay for music etc, but a whole bunch are paying. It comes down to preference and options.

I started this thread at the beginning of the month and I just wanted to say thanks for everyone's comments. My tale with XM ended today with my renewal at a good rate. I never got a call from them wanting me to renew so I called them this past Tuesday after my trial ended over the weekend. I had received two notices in the mail wanting me to renew and in each case the number to call was different. I used the first number 800-347-0600 and got nowhere with the operator. It was take the list price deal of $175 or do without so I did without. Today in the mail I got a special deal of $25 for 6 months for XM Select and yet a third different number to call: 877-486-7017. The operator was very helpful and said they also had an annual plan for $95 plus tax and fees. The total was $107. But no deal for NavTraffic. That was an additional $43 if I wanted to opt for that. I also got the same deal for my 2010 CTS that I bought last year as well as 2 additional months since I was entitled to a 2 month trial. I have noted the renewal date in my calendar so I can remember to call to cancel and start this hassle over again. Just not worth what they are asking for it.

Makes you wondr how they get the rates they offer. As noted in an earlier post, I just got a year for $95 including taxes and fees. I have to go through this hassle three times a year as we have three different vehicles renewing at different times. The direct number to the cancelation dept is 888-539-7474

I did a similar thing, but paid a little more. The $25 for six months didn't come in time, but I was still able to negotiate a good deal based on having another receiver and they even took money off for keeping me on hold. I left the Nav Traffic off. Not too long after I received an offer in the mail for Nav Traffic and Weather for 5months of $10. It will revert to the regular rate and automatically renew quarterly after that. Look for an offer from them soon. I was sure glad I waited.

I am in my first 3 month subscription and I am enjoying it. What annoys me the most is if I am paying for this service why am I still getting those awful commercials. They are like the ones on AM talk radio wanting me to buy gold, Viagra etc!

The commercials are standard-fare for everybody. It's not really commercial-free anymore.

Depends on the channel. Siriusly Sinatra has no commercials. Country channel "Six" does.

I'll look it up and report back soon.

I just looked. It was $105.71 including all taxes and fees for 1 year on XM select. I was very pleased within, even though some others may have negotiated better deals. I didn't really do any negotiating, and the majority of my discount was for having another radio active in my other vehicle.
