Ever consider doing the center area with leather or carbon fiber?

Do the top and bottom, and sell it to me.

I'll send you mine.

I like the top and bottom if you retain the factory airbag, the first one if you could get the airbag cover wrapped.

I've been trying to figure out how to modify the center airbag cover so that it doesn't look so cheap. I want to send my wheel to Dallas Custom Wheel but not a fan of the wheel just wrapped with that hunk of plastic and plastic $3 Cadillac emblem in the center. I though about buying a V2 Wheel Airbag cover and cutting the emblem out then sending the emblem and my V1 airbag cover to Dallas to have them wrap it with the new emblem. Problem is those covers sell for over $200 because they come with the airbag. Haven't been able to find just an emblem of any quality. :hmm:

I'm leaning towards top and bottom more and more now. I will be retaining the airbag cover.

I don't want to risk blocking the deployment of the steering wheel airbag with covering it in material. If you do plan on covering the center I would recommend disabling that airbag so you don't have a piece of plastic going ballistic into your face. Those panels are specially designed to break open when the bag is deployed. Altering the surface is a big no-no.

The seams are built with the airbag deployment in mind, it would be no different than what comes stock ($5 glued on emblem)

Here is an example of a deployed airbag cover:

Ahh Good to know. I couldn't see the images at work. I didn't realize there were seams there.

I assume that ours folds up or to the side. I can't see any way it'll split down the center.

You could cover the airbag portion with 3m dinoc. That should not hinder any ill affects if it needed to be deployed.

Yeah, they simply hinge out of the way. They do not split.

I figured the cover moved to the side when airbag deployed but was unable to find a pic online of one actually deployed. Every picture of deployed airbags shows the cover split in the center, but I can't see how that's possible on our cars.

No CF. Needs to match V2 shift knob.

I'm thinking about doing the rubber textured black shifter bezel in carbon. That would be the only reason I add carbon to the steering wheel. Still on the fence though.

Here is my shifter bezel (bad picture), I wrapped it in Carbon Vinyl and have a carbon fiber style shift boot. I'm about to peel off that vinyl send it in to be Hydro Dipped for a more professional look!

hmm. I was thinking more along the lines of getting some real carbon weave overlayed, resin'd and polished on top of the bezel.

I don't want to deal with pealing and scratches. I bought a piece of 3M dinoc to play around with and determined that a true overlay will look best.

Peeling and scratches has not been an issue for over three years, if you know what you're doing this stuff works fantastic (entire cars are wrapped in vinyl these days with resounding success). That said, the hydrodipped is more of a polished look. Real Carbon Fiber can be a biotch to get looking right, if you do go that route make sure you get the correct resin as a lot of them dry yellow. Personally for an interior plastic piece, actual carbon fiber is overkill IMO as you're not getting any durability or weight saving benefits from it.

Check out this Hydro Dipped Gallery, comparable if not way better quality that you're going to get from a DIY carbon fiber job and you won't spend hours with a buffer and bottle of polish.
