: Checking the engine mounts

I'm going to look at and possibly purchase a 2004 V on Friday. It has about 21k miles on it. Is there a relatively easy way to see if it still has stock mounts or if they have been upgraded/fixed already?

I think you would have to at least put the car on a lift or jack stands to look at the engine mounts.

to tell if the originals are bad you usually have to use a jack and slightly lift the engine to take the weight off the mounts. They tear at the top where you can not see it.

Motor mounts would not stop me from purchasing one.

When you test drive it, after it warms up, do a hard 1st to 2nd shift, or 2nd to 3rd. If you feel/hear a loud clunk/slam, the mounts are bad. I agree with PISNUOFF...it would not deter me from buying one. Many aftermarket options readily available.

Definitely would not keep me from buying but I could have the dealer change them out or I can use it as a negotiation tool.
