Hi All,

I just got my 2011 SRX Luxury last week on Wed. I'd been looking at them for quite sometime. I went from a very basic 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid to this car and I'm almost overwhelmed at the bells and whistles. But it's in the shop :-( The driver's side headlight was weak and at night I felt like I couldn't see anything to the left. I took in in yesterday for them to program a new fob, check the headlight and give it a good detail. Last night the service dept called and said they'd had to order a new headlamp assembly and it'd be in today. Dumb question, but aren't the bulbs replaceable? would this model have the AFL lights I've read about in the manual?

Thanks!! I'm enjoying reading through the forum, you all are so helpful!!!

Welcome, Congrats, and thanks for choosing GM.
That is quite the jump from an Escape! Bulbs are replaceable, so
it must have been a larger issue. Base & Luxury do not have AFL.

Not sure why they would order a headlight if it wasn't damaged. The bulbs are most certainly replaceable. I replaced mine with Phillips Crystal Vision Ultra bulbs because I wasn't happy with the brightness of the stock halogen bulb. Bulb replacement is located in Chapter 10 of the owners manual. The Luxury model has halogen projectors on the low beams but does not have the Adaptive Forward Lighting headlights you mentioned. The AFL's are on the Performance and Premium models only. One way to tell which headlight you have is the daytime running lights. On the halogen lights, the low beam and high beam lights are separate and the low beam is also the daytime running lights. The high beam is the lower inside light. On the AFL's, the daytime running light is the lower inside bulb and the low beam light is also the high beams, and they are not used as daytime running lights.
Since you just got it, are you sure it is a Luxury model and not a higher model?

Thanks All! Turns out the Headlamp assembly was "fogged" (read that damaged) inside, looked clear to me. But the new assembly did the trick and I have light on both sides.

Phil, the paperwork says it's the Luxury. Is there a way to find out from the VIN which is really is? Not that they are providing incorrect information, just for my own curiosity...

... Is there a way to find out from the VIN which is really is? Not that they are providing incorrect information, just for my own curiosity...Your VIN# will tell your build history and what options you have on your SRX.

If you want to give me your last 8 of your VIN# I can email you a copy or post it for you to see here.

Probably, but I don't know where you can get it. Perhaps someone else knows? Easy way to tell is if it has a rear power lift gate, wood trim inside, sun roof and no AFL, it is a Luxury. The Basic model does not have wood trim, power tail gate, nor a sunroof. Higher Performance and Premium models have AFL and 20" wheels among other things. 20" wheels not a good way to tell though, because they can be ordered as an option.
Hope your headlight assembly was replaced under warranty, as they can be expensive.
