My wrapped B&B were looking beat. Gave them a Fire proof ceramic spray, then Titanium lava wrap. Much better than the fiberglass stuff I used before.

Soak the wrap in a 5 Gal bucket of water before you install it. It will keep the fibers to a minimum and allow you to stretch it so that it doesn't come loose/sag.

But not if it's titanium wrap, they don't recommend wetting or silicone spray. Gloves may help, but it's never my hands that get itchy, it's always my arms that get it bad. Just remember to wash in cool water after.

I planned on doing an Omega thermistor mod for my Iat sensor, because my sensor that was on the whipple was suspect. When I finally pulled it, I was right.
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e29/tommycompton/9197BCE1-B3C3-4927-9DF1-522C547AA9BA-9057-000008714F32BE16.jpg

I know coolant sensors can be used for NA set ups, but definitely not recommended for FI. Now I can see why this little heat sink was getting heat soaked, and giving me false high intake temperature readings. Not sure why somebody would think it was a good idea to use this in this set up???
Anyway here's the new sensor I'll be putting it, probably more than adequate as is, but I'll be doing the Omega thermistor mod to this sensor housing.

Heat sink is right! Just a blob of metal.

Ques: Is the new one "plug and play?"

tommy compton
02-03-13, 04:09 PM
Exactly, no insulation between the sensor and the housing. It was probably reading temperatures of the blower manifold too, not so much the air inside. Which would/should be cooler.
Almost plug and play, just had to buy a new iat harness connector (plug). They sell them at bmotorsports too.

Did you get the rims widened? What trailing arms do you have? Really looking forward to seeing this thing come to life!

tommy compton
03-27-13, 09:45 PM
I've had my rims widened for awhile now @ 10" with map trailing arms.
I hit a pothole last year and damaged a rim, I got a new one but when they powder coated it, the color didn't match the other 3.
So needing new tires, I figured it was a good time to get my rims repowder coated, and figured might as well try a new color.

Tommy, I'm looking forward to the roads around here getting cleared up after the melt, and a ride in your rebuilt car when it's up and running!

- Who did the wheel work for you? I have some curb rash, was thinking of going to Wheel Fix It guys about that, and I like the powder coat colour you went with! That's gonna look great!

tommy compton
03-27-13, 10:10 PM
Ya sure thing!!! I brought my wheels to Quick Coatings, just off Pembina. Last time I had curb rash I just sanded it down myself, then got them powder coated. I only paid 120.00 this time, they didn't have to sandblast them because they were already powder coated. The color is called charcoal metallic, I'm pretty happy with the color. It's alittle darker than Anthracite that most people seem to get, which is also a nice color.
Usually they charge about 40-50 per rim including sandblasting.

04-02-13, 06:52 PM
What is that in the trunk in the spare tire area? What does it do?

tommy compton
04-02-13, 08:47 PM
That's a methanol tank for meth injection. It cools the intake air temperatures and raises the octane level of the fuel, which helps reduce detonation.

philistine
04-02-13, 09:11 PM
Ohh ok! I am not familiar with meth injection. From my limited knowledge, isn't timing the injection a PITA or is there a simplified method?

tommy compton
04-02-13, 09:21 PM
I have a variable boost controller, which can be set to kick in a different levels of boost.
Or I can tie into the maf and have it kick in based on the signal from that.

That's a methanol tank for meth injection. It cools the intake air temperatures and raises the octane level of the fuel, which helps reduce detonation.

Do you know how much it takes off the intake temps? For instance, is there an equilibrium intake temp that you were seeking for the meth injection? Does it inject more at idle? I'm trying to understand when to incorporate such a system for a SC build and the benefits of it - the heat balance and protection it gives. Do you notice cooler engine temps, oil temps etc?

tommy compton
04-03-13, 12:05 AM
I'm not sure how much it will cool my set up, as I haven't run it yet. However it is usually very significant.
There is no injection happening at idle, it's usually set to start injection at a certain level of boost, ie. 5psi.
Here is a link that may help you, I used this link just because that is where the majority of my system is from, minus my contoller, it's from snow performance.

Had to redrill the manifold mouning bolt holes, never took into consideration that milling the deck .005 to zero it plus a thinner head gasket would affect the head to manifold geometry as much as it did. Just glad the manifold sinched down with the .020 difference, without having to mill the blower manifold.

Anyway, just got some minor odds and ends to do, mostly wiring in my new Iat, wiring the MAf, for a slot style, and wiring in a SNow variable methanol controler.
Could have it done in a day, too bad I don't have day to work on it for a bit. Hopefully get it to the tuners in afew weeks, if she starts without problems.

Poor dusty girl..

Got her started on the weekend, finally had some time to get it finished. Not sure when I'll get in for a dyno tune, hopefully by next week some time.

Sprung a coolant leak from the intercooler piping, just need a new fitting, other than that she's good for tuning.

Thanks, cleaning up wiring and hoses in this thing is no easy task. next on my list is hard lining the intercooler lines to clean them up a bit.

Sexiness... Excellent work. Can't wait for dyno numbers. Are you going to do before and after meth #s so you can see the difference? Or are you going whole hog straight away?

I actually want to get it tuned without meth first, to get the timing set. then tune in the meth and adjust the afr. I'm not really interested in pushing the hp with meth right now, just using it for additional cooling.

Gotcha. The meth should be good for a few more HP depending on the % of meth to water. I have heard some guys running washer fluid... But I think snow performance sell methanol you can buy to throw in the tank

Running 50/50. The meth would allow me to advance timing= more hp, if I choose. I'm definitely waiting until I get a flow sensor and perhaps some sort of fail safe. A little led telling me my meth is spraying doesn't instil much confidence.
I get my methanol (methyl hydrate) from the hardware store. Much cheaper, readily available, and virtually the same thing.
