Thinking about getting a starter from summit racing. If I'm correct the O.E one is only 90 lb of torque. I'm thinking of getting one with 180. Mine is giving me problems when hot.

You didnt mention what engine or anything. I am actually looking to find a good spare starter for my 68 to keep in the trunk since I may not be able to find one in a pinch

Yeah it would help. 1969 Eldorado 472. What was actually the problem the Bendix was shot, it passed the test, but the inner was gone just spun. Got a new one temporary until I get the other from summit which will be better. I'm getting one with 180 lbs of torque instead of 90.

I'd like to know where I could get a standard one or which summit one would even be compatible on my 68 472.

You can find a standard starter on rockauto.com from $52 to $88 + shipping... And also a high torque one for $99

Don't you have local part stores in your town Napa, Orielly's etc they should have a standard one. The high torque one I'm getting from Summit is, part# pwm-9600
. They have others some with 160.
