I was at a restaurant last nite, and saw a guy walk up to his Bimmer (3 series?year) and when he unlocks the car, the 4 door handles project a subtle white led illumination to the bottom! It looked so classy, and it would look really good on a CTS? Anyone has seen this done? what's involved? costly project? Tnx

I think they come from the factory that way. Maybe something like the XTS has (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-xts-forum/258312-xts-right-now-post-questions-pic.html#post2946780)?

My friends 09 3 series has that. It's factory. It's a really classy touch.

My previous Acura RL had them as we'll as my current BMW X5.

I just had a '13 ATS loaner and it not only had that, but courtesy lights under the mirrors so it lit up the area around the door so you could see water or ice, etc. Very cool

Thanks for the thoughts, I wonder if there is an aftermarket way of installing these? maybe a "lighting" specialist shop or something. Some ppl refer to them as "puddle" lights.

The actual wiring and mounting of an LED or two would be pretty easy, but the hard part would be finding a place to mount the LED. I'm thinking with my 2011 CTS Coupe, their aren't really door handles so it would definitely look cool but you would undoubtedly have to drill into the door and snake the wires through the door panel into the car... After that you would just have to tap into a fuse that is used to turn the lights on whenever the unlock button on the key fob is pressed and voila'. Too much effort and risk for me to want to try though.

Caddy's had them back in the late 70's, early 80's. It was called "Illuminated Entry" There was a little plastic "diamond" under the door push button and it was lit by a fiber optic wire from the inside courtesy light.

I have a coupe and it does have a light under the door for when you open it. It works for when you drive some where and are getting out to see if there is anything there. I replaced the regular bulbs with white LEDS. They look great and are really bright.

Unfortunately not as useful when your walking up to the car though.

replicating something like in the XTS would look fantastic. a plain LED strip wouldn't look good, you would need a solid band of light, or a strip behind a plastic diffuser.
i'm also not sure how the wiring would work out
