have a 87 caddy brougham with a 307 engine. replaced battery with a silver diehard, put dry gas into the tank. engine is turning over but not seeming to getting gas to start. when we remove air cleaner and open 4 barrel flap it seem to help at first, but it still not starting. over the last few days it has been impossible to get started, before that, it was a hard start but if i could warm up the engine it ran great. does anyone have any ideas for me. its been preety cold here in buffalo, but i never had this problem before. i wonder about maybe a froze gas line but i thought the dry gas would help. also does anybody think my 4 barrel needs rebuilding. any help is appreciated.

I only add this as you didn't mention it: do you have a block heater? Maybe the it is too cold around the engine block for the fuel to vaporize. Just a thought.

no it doesnt have a engine block heater. im thinking that the fuel lines are frozen and cant get fuel to the engine. i dont have a warm garage to put in either. the car is parked in driveway. it has been pretty cold here in buffalo. i heard its not suppose to get above freezing until friday, but i cant wait that long !!! oh well i guess i need to drive my caddy everyday from now on. any other suggestions for my problem please post.

Nope Automatic choke. When you pump the accelerator, does fuel squirt into the primaries? And on the choke.... Does it close fully?

There's probably something wrong with your choke or the carberator. Did you try using Quick Start?

as an experiment squirt some starting fluid into it and see if it fires

well it got up to 40 degrees and i tried starting the car again, but it still wouldnt start. so i called up my mechanic and hes looking at it right now. ill let everyone know what is wrong with it when i get the details.

well i finally got my caddy back. this is what my mechanic did and it is running excellent :)
replaced distributor cap and rotor and removed spark plugs and cleaned them because they were wet from the engine being flooded from when i tried starting it.
he also replaced the choke unit and choke unit pull off and fixed vacuum leaks. the thing was a mess. but now i can really feel a performance boost from the new spark plugs and wires. even though the 307 isnt really that powerful for a 4000lb car.
