I know this has been talked about before here.... but I still think it is cool... the question is.. would you give up the nice steel hood for one? I love the sheer mass and strength of it.. but... then again these don't rust, and is weight reduction, since our cars are already front-heavy....

1978 Cadillacs:

"Most broughams, all California Cadillacs and the fuel-injected DeVille sedan sported aluminum hoods. "

I already have one of those... car's dead, but it's saving weight on my lawn now. :crying:

wow....

how much do they really save on weight?

if building up a sleeper, that would be a great way to reduce some weight, if needed...

Does anyone know if those will fit 80-92 RWD's. Even if it requires minor modifications. I'm on a mission to lighten up mine big time.

I doubt it, but if no one chimes in with an answer I could always measure mine and if the measurements are the same I could take a pic of how it mounts.

IIRC the hood on these cars are exactly the same....

... the only thing that would be different, is the angle at which the crown int he center is, but, I am pretty sure that it is the same...

'77-'79 had no chrome on hood, '90-'85 or so had the chrome strip down the middle... '86-'89 had the 2 pieces of chrome on the edge of the crown.. not sure about '90-'92...

I would say it should fit no problem though...

In that case I'll try to hit junkyards more often. And yeah, about the crome strip, it's getting tossed just like the rest of the useless trim. When I'm done my caddy gonna look more like a grand national
