: Speed governor

My STS Governor top my MPH at 115. What is the best way to remove the restriction. I believe it does have the rental RPO code

Don't think it is possible but others may chime in if I am incorrect...Plan on taking her to a track or something?

No track, live out in desert area of wide open range. Sometimes you need to pass several cars or semi trucks on a two lane road and 115 mph governor hinders the speed i need to pass all quickly. Would like that extra comfort of higher speed in case another car pops over horizon at last minute. Had a close call few months ago and it was the governor killing my momentum.

I doubt a dealer will do it, even if they could. The ECM has been cracked, find a tuner shop. A search for Mad Tuner on this forum should give you one alternative.

Be advised, that speed is considered reckless driving in most states. There's few roads where 115 is 'safe and reasonable'.

Personally, I believe that if you're traveling around other traffic at those kind of speeds, you're very foolish. But... since I work in emergency services, perhaps I should be thanking you for the job security.

i also am a first responder and law enforcement task force federal level, at a moments notice i could get call and need to get to a place pretty quick. I did state i do live in area close to southern border it is vast wide open. there is a lot of oilfield semi truck that travel all over my AO. they throw gravel at your car break windshields, chip paint and tire gators so i need to pass. Anyway i don't travel at a constant 115 mph sometimes i need that extra speed to pass only. i have seen and responded to plenty and currently to high speed accidents DWI's,drug interdictions and high speed chases. So i see your point thanks for the caring message.

MadTuners, that's the one! Now I remember hearing about the cracked ECM, OP, I think that's your only option as the dealer will not lift a speed limiter unless you know someone that knows someone....

I think it's funny how it seems every STS I've heard of has a different limiter. Mines 125. I've heard 140. I've heard 120 etc. etc...

Tune is the only way. Contact madtuner.

How do I find out what my speed limiter is set at with out breaking the law. Thanks Danny

Look at the tire sticker located on the drivers door B-pillar or door jamb. The limited is set according to the speed rating of the OEM tires. Fleet/rental cars might be even lower.

There is an old post that provided the exact ratings & associated speed but figure on 10MPH lower than the speed rating and you'll be close. Few cars sold were not limited; Germany-sold exports?

Echas3, Thanks for quick reply. I have an 06 STS V-6 with NAV. Rear tires are 255-45-18, front are 235-50-18. This is also what stated on the door pillar. Can I do 150mph with this V-6. Danny
