: P0430 - Why Me?

Got what I've read to be the dreaded P0430...cleared it for now so we'll see if it comes back. What are my chances at getting a goodwill warranty for the cat failing just shy of 91k. I know the federal warranty is 8yr/80k.

I assume no but it can't hurt to try...

Have you followed the appropriate diagnostic steps? There are factors that can set this DTC other than a bad cat. I wouldn't jump on replacing one (especially on my nickel) until I had ruled out everything else.

What would those steps be? I read what I could find and by an overwhelming margin the cat was replaced in most cases...also read 2005 cats were specially warrantied for something like 200k? Is that correct? It's obvious this component is a weak point beyond 2005, or the STS for that matter.

There is a good chance the cat is bad, however...

The GM service information also makes reference to 'other' causes (of which physical damage to the cat and exhaust components is listed) including:

Temporary contamination from a chemical or fuel additive.
Fuel containing too much sulfur.
Exhaust system leaks.
Exhaust system constriction.
Poorly torqued H02S 2.
Damaged H02S 2.
H02S 2 wiring/short to ground/bad connector.

2004-05 srx and 05 STS equipped with the 4.6 n* have a 12 year 200k cat warranty.

Wish mine was a 2005....

I've read countless posts about 2006+ Cadillac's eating cats too...but no special warranty like the 05? Doesn't seem to me like there's much difference, still an early failing cat issue regardless.

Why are the timing chains covered for extended warranty on the 3.6 motor for 06 but not the 04-05 which have the same chain strech issue?

Welcome to GM

Cat problems start with engine misfires and contaminated fuel.

Yeah, that really jerked my chain, no pun intended, when my 04 CTS starting clattering at startup.

Doesn't misfire and I get gas from the same place every time petty much (top tier).. Car runs just fine, accelerates as expected. CEL just came on randomly...driven 60+ miles since clearing it and it hasn't come back yet.
