170k miles here. I'm assuming the fluids have never been changed

I am about to buy 4 quarts (front 1.51 qts rear 2.15 qts) GM 88900401 to replace GM 89021677 which replaces GM 12378261 75w-90 Grape scent fluid for the front and rear axles. And 1.5 quarts 88861800 for the transfer case. I do notice when I come to a stop after going up a steep hill the truck jerks forward like I've been rear ended. Also I have some bad thunkss taking off from a stop sign... My transmission is brand new and both motor mounts so I know that is not the problem. I know I am due for a differential fluid change and transfer case fluid change...

Would there be any problems in 1. change front axle, rear axle, transfer case fluids that haven't been changed in say 170k miles?

2. I am afraid us using mobil 1 75w-90 for fear of developing some "chatter" noise or if they don't have the right friction modifiers so I am going GM 88900401 Grape scent-- I have the G80 option ESV AWD. The Mobil 1 stuff is $10 a quart. I have to pay $23 a quart the cheapest I've found for the grape scent GM 88900401.

These trucks do not use the non slip additive because of the G80, I have changed my trucks dozens of times :)

So that means I can use GM 88900401 Straight or use Mobil 1 75w-90?

Wow!! 170k and fluids never changed? I rebuilt my front diff at 130k and the rear diff at 150k. I didn't use the friction modifier on my rear diff either. But I think you will need 5 quarts. The rear takes 3 and the front takes 2. You will need a rear diff cover gasket on an 07. Transfer case uses trans fluid.

I was looking over old invoices and my truck did have the Rear differential service done at 100,000 miles...
2 x #1481 Gear guard $35.28, 1 x #1491 limited slip concentrate $25.20, 1 #88862650 cleaner $5.97 + $98.84 labor = $200.57

So if I have the option code G80 that doesn't need the limited slip stuff why did the dealer add it when the prior owner took it in for service?

Since the GM service manual says (NO Friction Modifier Necessary for G80 Equipped Trucks) the dealership was either clueless, or pulled a fast one. Will it hurt to add it? No, but there is no benefit for adding it unless you would like to waste money. ;)

I'll go back to the dealership and take 2 cups of coffee and 3 donuts and we'll call it even.
