: Performance cams for our engine?

So here is a question that I have been researching for the past hour. The forums, nor Google could answer my question.

Can you swap our stock cams for performance cams? I've only read about one V6 Camaro that was camm'd. Would Camaro cams even fit our engines?

There is hardly any info available, and all input is appreciated!

Thanks!

We have the same 3.6 DI engines, I believe. I didn't know there was a cam for our engines. I was talking last month with a group of Camaro enthusiasts and they never mentioned a cam for the V6.

I'll post the link when I get home tonight. I believe the cams were from the guys at MACE.

Here is the link to the thread discussing LLT cams in a camaro:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239911

I briefly spoke with a MACE engineering rep, and he assured me they would most definitely fit our engines. I haven't had the time to call and get specifics such as price and availability, but hopefully I'll find the time by the end of the week.

Is anyone else out there interested in this? Expected gains are 40 - 45hp, and I'm guessing the price will fall between $1000 - 1500.

I know one shop was quoting $1200 for install, gaskets/fluids. Once you have CAI/iceolator/ported tb/trifecta tune, the HP starts to cost a lot more

Installed complete is $2400. Add $700 if you want new timing chain kit installed at the same time.

solid 30 RWHP from them, but the ported intake and heads really allow the added lift to work.

Takes app 2-4 days to do.

If anyone has experience with installing cams, I'd love to here from you. I'd like to get my hands on a set in the Spring and try the install myself. As long as I take my time, I'm fairly confident in my skills. I'm sure I can find videos/walkthroughs, but first hand experience is always a plus.

So pretty close to the cost of a supercharger installed?

SC2150

Very close.....and I would go with the SC if it was me personally, but this to go NA is pretty much the ultimate there (until the stroker crank is released).

Dont do the timing chain, ported TB, etc. and this is in the high $4 grand range which brings it down a few grand below the super charger.

Whats the adverage rev limit after the cam kit like?

SC2150
01-30-13, 04:25 PM
We still limit in the tune to 7k, but they pull through 8k where the stock ones start to fall off as far as peak power around 6700-6800.

Have you gotten a motor to guinnie pig and see what you could redline at w no rev limiter? It would be interesting to see what numbers you could pull.

Not yet, we stopped before 8k but the curve showed no sign of dropping yet.....with the stock valvetrain we dint want to push it further.

Installing 4 cams in a DOHC motor is a long slow labor intensive process. You heard SC1250 mention 2-3 days. And they have done it before. Double or triple that if you are doing it for the first time. Mostly hand tools tho.. Front end and top end of motor comes apart. Tricky part is putting it back together and getting the timing chains installed with all 4 cams and the crank properly aligned, and on the compression stroke. Next slow part is doing a valve adjustment procedure on 24 valves, mostly likely with a feeler guage and replacing shims, and rotating the motor slowly. Last motor I did this way needed special tools to hold the valves open while removing shims and different size replacement shims. Haven't looked at the valve adjustment method on the 3.6 LLT yet, but on any DOHC there is hardly any other way of designing the valve adjustment. Then pop on the valve covers and intake and you are almost done!! :-) Easy right?

VERY diificult and leigh described it well. The 3 timing chains have to be installed and timined by slowly rotating in a several step process.....not for the light of heart.

We see 30 RWHP gains soild with the cams alone.

Heads compliment it all as well:
