: Universal vs Direct fit catalytic converters

So my catalytic converter is getting red hot, was told it was plugged/clogged, I was looking at new OE direct fits for the catera, but they are so expensive, would it be better if I cut them out and replace them with universal converters (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/310501287556?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_3687wt_1165)

Would it be wise to just start lopping off pieces of the exhaust and replacing them with strait pipes or uni catys?
I don't want to blow my engine or head gaskets from not fixing the catalytic.

Also what size diameter of exhaust pipes does the catera have? 2.0' 2.5' or 3.0' ? specifically at the catalytic converter area

I'm looking for that answer too !!!! I think mine don't have nothing in it. After my temp. test I got on driver side 256F before and 265F after. On pass. side got 270F before cat. and 302F after. Some times feel like car going no where, and poor gas mpg. I would love to know if any body replace cats with universal ones.
Thank you

Use either a good quality direct fit, or appropriately sized universal converter.

Walker makes some nice exhaust parts.
