I've been on the search for a good interface for my ipod that wasn't just a headphone jack plugged into a FM modulator. I wanted to be able to skip tracks and utilize other Ipod functions though the factory radio, this way i could effectively stow my ipod out of site and not have to fumble around with it. In my recent search i came across this unit from Peripheral Here is a link to the site i found it on: http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=907&CategoryID=36

Description from the website:

Product Description
Recipient of a 2008 CES Innovations Award, the iSimple GateWay™ is the first interface ever to bring the iPod™, HD Radio™ broadcasting, Satellite Radio and many other portable media products into the vehicle.

The iSimple GateWay™ directly connects your iPod to your radio allowing you to browse your music, by Artist, Album, Genre, and Playlist from the radio controls. This direct connection eliminates the need for noisy FM modulated solutions and also keeps the iPods internal battery charged.

The iSimple GateWay™ brings the power of HD Radio broadcasting with the help of the HD Radio Tuner (HDRT). Available separately, the HDRT gives users more channels, more content, in exciting new formats—all with no subscription fees.

The iSimple GateWay™ can also be expanded with an SCC1 Satellite Radio tuner (sold seperately) or with the iSimple BluStream Bluetooth Interface (Select Vehicles).

The iSimple GateWay™ allows connection of any two devices at once: iPod cable, AUX cable, SCC1 Satellite Tuner (sold seperately), HD Radio Tuner (sold seperately) or Bluetooth module.

I have one and love it I can control the iPod through the radio(playlist album selection ect, ect)

One plus to doing it this way is the audio quality and everything is plug and play

Mine may be a older model but it works great

I installed it myself and got the Bluetooth add on and can use it for hands free calling on my iPhone

What is the call quality like on the Bluetooth? I've ASI been looking in to that as well.

Sounds like it does on my iPhone plus it has a noise canceling mic built into the mic to cancel out unwanted noise (eg hvac blowers)

One thing I like about the Bluetooth add on is you can stream music from your iPhone besides using hands free

Plus if I am playing music on my iPod and a call comes in I just press preset 1 to answer the call or hang up

The Bluetooth add on was separate but you can get it in amazon's website that's where I got mine(glad I did too as the first one was doa)

I have this (the non-bluetooth version) and it works great. I don't know if someone was just blowing out old stock or what, but I found the kit on ebay brand new for about $28. My only gripe about it is the wires like to fall out of the round plugs on the box. I mounted mine with those sockets pointed up so that the wires don't fall out.

Mine is the same way I used a heavy duty zip tie
