My passenger lowbeam/running light went out and I need to know what kind of bulb to replace it with. It's the stock 05 cts-v headlight

The lowbeam headlight or the tiny little running bulb in the bottom corner?

The lowbeam is D1S HID bulb that little bulb in the corner is a 194

For future reference, this website is always helpful. https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/applications/automotive-lighting-systems/Pages/lrgmain.aspx

It's the low beam, and thank you appreciate it. Also would you know around what price range they run?

If you go with China brand you can buy 2 for $22: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Free-Shipping-12V-Xenon-HID-Conversion-Replace-Bulb-D1S-4300K-/321033909386?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4abf1cb48a&vxp=mtr

Here is a US seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HID-XENON-HEADLIGHT-D1S-4300K-X-1-BULB-STOCK-COLOR-HIGH-INTENSITY-DISCHARGE-35W-/160670678305?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ACadillac%7CModel%3ACTS&hash=item2568b7fd21&vxp=mtr

Or if you want Factory, the part number is 25735603

E-bay Factory: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ACDelco-D1S-factory-replacement-headlight-bulb-GM-25735603-BU4-/310490862711?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item484ab29477&vxp=mtr

At GM Parts Direct the factory bulb is selling for $150: http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/

I'm fairly certain factory color is 4300k but someone like Fuzzylogic would know for sure, or a quick google search.

Are you sure its the bulb and not the ballast?

I am not 100 percent sure how would I be able to tell which one it is?

Easiest way is to change the bulb. If it doesn't work, ballast it is.

So about ordering the 29.99 from the us seller are they pretty reliable like just as good as if I got them for 99.99 here at like auto zone or something

Kind of a side note question, but can you upgrade the wattage of the stock bulb without making any other changes?

Thanks

I think that you would need to upgrade the ballast. I don't think that simply putting a higher wattage HID bulb would have great results with the stock ballast. But that is just a guess.

Are you looking for a brighter output, or different color? From what i've read, putting a 55w bulb with a 35w ballast will either be slightly brighter or have issues. Seems to boil down to the bulb and whether or not if its true 55w or something in the 35-45 range. To my understanding, most aftermarket 55w bulbs are not true 55w, but close. It also depends on the ballast, but I would think ours is fairly decent in comparison to what most people slap on their cars. One thing that seemed consistent is that if works the bulb life will be dramatically reduced. If you want more light, just put HID's in the fogs. Easy, cheap, and looks great.

Pull the driver's bulb and put it in the passenger side. If it turns on, it's the bulb.

I am always looking for more light output on my cars, and in this case as close to stock color as possible for higher lumens. I am going to have to research the HID fogs and try and do some cleanup on my current headlight lenses to see how much better I can get them.

Thanks
Fej

Upgrade to aftermarket ballasts and bulbs, ddm has a 55watt kit. Also do one of those headlight restore kits, they work like a charm especially if you have a machine polisher.
