My 99 STS has 65K miles. It tends to wander in both directions rather than follow a straight line on the highway. I'm always having to correct for it. Probably just an alignment problem but I was wondering what front-end "weak links" I should check for while it is being serviced. I'm going to inspect the brake hoses after reading the stickie regarding them.
Ckeck for loose ball joints and bushings on the tie rods, wheel hub,...ect. If you jack the car up, grab the wheel at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock and try to shake it back and forth. If the wheel moves alot, it might be a worn wheel bearing or bad balls joints. Also check by grabbing it at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and try the same thing. If it moves, thats bad. Good Luck.

I've been told that it's not uncommon for the tie rod ends to go on the 98+ Sevilles.

My '99 STS wanders too. I've tried everything to no avail. Front end and bearings as tight as new, new tires, car aligned etc. Seems I zig-zag down the road. An exaggeration, but that's what it's like.
Bought the car three years ago with 33K miles and it hasn't changed at all. Dealer says nothing wrong, but my other three cars go straight...
If you find anyhting unusual, please post.

Have you paid close attention to the caster angle?
If the caster is out of adjustment, it can cause problems in straight line tracking. If the caster is different from side to side, the vehicle will pull to the side with the less positive caster. If the caster is equal but too negative, the steering will be light and the vehicle will wander and be difficult to keep in a straight line.
My STS is going in the alignment shop this week. I'll let you know what we find.
Did this get resolved? If so was it the castor angle? I am having the same problem...on my 98 SLS....just after an alignment...the tech swears it is set at factory specs...
Thanks

The shop didn't find anything. I'm not feeling it anymore. We had just bought the car, maybe I just wasn't used to driving a heavy, FWD car. I'm pleased with the ride now. Sorry I couldn't help
