Hey Guys the crank pulley on my 472 is a chunk of iron, what effect would changing to the 425 pulley system have on the 472? big difference in weight, is that heavy 472 crank pulley considered a balancer or something,?if so how does one make up for it with the 425 pulleys. Must say imma bit confused, HELP. Thanks

I know that some folks swap the other pulleys out when removing air pumps & converting to HEI distributors etc, but don't remember anything about changing the big crank pulley, which I would think is the balancer. I have the big iron pulley on my 508/El Camino project, and I'm not inclined to change it.

I've swapped these pulleys around for a long time without any problems.
The older pulleys were heavy to damp any last trace of any vibration.
They used to put weights in interesting places on old Cadillacs too. One on the rear axle tube and one near the crapolytic converter.
