06 STS Rob

Had them on for about 3,000 miles now with no vibration what so ever. You tell me....????
I have been inspecting the tires regularly because of "concerns" about using spacers. No abnormal wear.

I believe H & R has hubcentric spacers along with longer bolts to ensure secure lug nut fit?

is3_ftw

not sure what .313" spacers are in millimeters. I know a few people around my area use 5mm spacers with stock studs. Anything bigger should have extended studs or find a company that has bolts built onto the spacers. KICS is a good company, but they sell their hub centric ring seperately.

I might be an odd duck at 27 but I love my STS, she's sexy!

I plan on modding mine slightly over time, just got her in May. I'm planning on getting 20's, tinting the windows, and getting the exhaust swapped, I like what I've heard from Gibson. I like 'em looking clean and simple, it is a Cadillac after all.

These cars don't take well to many major mods, too many electronic sensors, computers, etc in your way. Need deep, deep pockets to really get crazy, not your average Honda Civic...

My next mod is a V. Going to look at one on Friday....
.313" is 8mm and like I said, I used shouldered lug nuts. This keeps proper thread contact and works to center the wheel to the studs. Not exactly hub centric, but has been working so far. The first sign of vibration or abnormal tire wear would be when the spacers come off. The loss would only be $10... Then again, if I trade her in for the V this weekend, I won't be worried about it cause the wheels are going with her.
I'm also running the factory 18" Cad wheels on my boat trailer, something I was told I couldn't do...I guess with no chance of destruction, mods would be boring.

I'm 27 and aside from some electrical goodies in the interior, only my headlights and fogs are upgraded. Changed the stock halogens to custom HID highs, lows, and fogs I built, but the lens is killing my output and someone backed into me yesterday so I'll be custom building a set of OEM HID housings with FX-R 3.0 projectors, clear lenses, and D2S bulbs. The headlights absolutely kill me about this car. Everything else has been brilliant.

Other than taking off that massive N* badge, exterior is mostly stock. Not touching the wheels unless I decide to do bags which wouldn't happen until I've retired this thing. I love the MRC and won't be messing around with it until it needs to be replaced.

Most people who want to mod the shit out of their cars usually don't go with a full size luxury sedan - especially when there is basically the exact same model with factory performance additions in the STS-V. This is also why there are very little aftermarket performance options for non-V models.

I havent done much if anything to my 05 STS--I've had it since I was 18 HOWEVER; I do have a few ideas of what I would like to "mod" it with.

Plans are simple and very minimal--Bag it using Air Lift Universal Stuts, E&G Classics Lip Kit and 20X11 wheels all the way around; or something along those lines with a budget of 8k or so :/

Car alreadys has a few things: Blk tint, rear spoiler and the interior is pretty loaded with the added options like wood grain, Navi, Bose, and all that stuff lol.

Of course; since its only a non-V, I may retract my plans and find me a V. 1 more year and I'm done paying it off :D

Unfortunately, I don't know the offset in the rear. I ordered the rear wheels custom as blanks. We first drilled the lug pattern, then started machining down the pad till (1) it was flush & (2) if we machined anymore it would have hit the brake caliper. LOL.

I'm tossed up between a V rear spoiler or the E&G Version 2 I think it is. I'm kinda leaning toward E&G because im not trying to pass the car off for a V, I only used the CTS-V coupe muffler because it was free & I did want to do center exhaust to be different. I've never seen it done on one of these.

BTW, if anybody is wondering. I had to section my spare tire well by almost 6 inches to pull the muffler up high enough behind the bumper cover since the new cars don't have spare tire wells!!!

are you talking about the exhaust not being street legal?
No, it is your side reflectors. Like I say, it looks nice but doesn't meet FMVSS requirements. I can't comment on the exhaust because I've never done any research on that.

FMVSS Standard 108:

"S5.1 Required motor vehicle lighting equipment. S5.1.1 Except as provided in succeeding paragraphs of this S5.1.1, each vehicle shall be equipped with at least the number of lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment specified in Tables I and III and S7, as applicable. Required equipment shall be designed to conform to the SAE Standards or Recommended Practices referenced in those tables. Table I applies to multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks, trailers, and buses, 80 or more inches in overall width. Table III applies to passenger cars and motorcycles and to multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks, trailers, and buses, less than 80 inches in overall width."

And specifically as applicable to the side reflectors (From Table IV):

"On each side—1 red as far to the rear as practicable, and 1 amber as far to the front as practicable"

And the section in its entirety:

http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=571.108

I'm also fairly certain that tinting your tail lights will decrease light output below required levels as well.

Mullah88

ddalder

So did you check out the link, read the information and research all the applicable SAE standards? Because the question isn't whether it's LED or not. You can tint LED lamps to fall below requirements, despite the fact that without tint, they may have greater output than incandescent.

My lenses are actually all Candied. I didn't smoke them with Cheesy NightShades or Vinyl Tint which is 100% ILLEGAL. By using a tinted Candy paint, all my lenses actually are Legal (at least by my local laws) because the Candy is translucent. The light output is not reduced at all & all the lenses still reflect the amber & red colors as required by law when a cop shines his light on them. This process isn't cheap but it's the only correct way to do it IMO.

As for the exhaust, of course it's legal. It's the stock exhaust off of a CTS-V coupe.

ddalder
12-25-12, 02:45 PM
I'm going to have to look more into this. Like I said, the car definitely looks good. I'd like to do something to mine, but I need to make sure it's 100% legit. I'm still not sure about the side markers though. I seem to recall something about visibility day or night and if you need to shine a light on them to make them reflect the correct colour, I don't know that they meet code. I'll have to look further. Sharp looking car, no question!

Really? Sorry, I thought I was being respectful about how this was approached. After all, it's a public forum and the posts were in relation to this thread. If you don't want to hear other thoughts, perhaps you should only query your friends who may abstain from telling you things you don't want to hear.

Sorry you don't understand regulation, but maybe others might want to know before they go and do something that will get them a fine.

I thought that ddalder's comment was appropriate.

The candied lenses may be considered to be too reflective of the actual lens. I would have to believe they would have a law governing lens cover reflectiveness in the same manner as they do with window tint reflectiveness.

I just got my 2011 on Monday, so my mod to date has been a wash--in the dark. A cat promptly walked over it.

Possible Changes on my wish list (any advice or experience welcomed):
removing the shark fin
removing front plate bracket
chrome or dark edge to taillights (crystal red car)
Dark Red upholstery piping (or chrome) between the black & gray sections of interior
Matching padded leather on console & center armrest
Red floor mats
Black leather cover for steering wheel hub
Standup hood ornament--W&C or goddess, with chrome center strip to windshield
Softer front springs
15" wheels and 75 ratio tires. /jk I know they won't fit over the brakes.

As he posted they are the GM accessory tails. They are no longer available (haven't been for many years).
They light up all red like the normal USA model lights but have a clear / smoked lens. The European ones have amber signals and look very similar to those but have a few extra LEDs in them.

Maybe it's the angle, but I hadn't noticed the corkscrew effect in the clear taillights before.

They're down to $322 and $326 at GM Partsdirect. Wonder why they have different prices?

I'm sorta interested because I have a red STS, and the stock taillights blend in, but I'm not $700 interested.

It's actually the angle of the picture, head on its actually just 2 rows of layered boxes with an led in each box. I was actually lucky enough to get them from a member on this website. He sold me both taillights and the third brake light. All in perfect condition which is rare to find when used. Usually they have broken corners or cracks

In your case with the iPad you could have a cutout behind the iPad with a door that has a storage area behind the iPad to improve the storage space in the car since the glovebox is so small.
Might be big enough to keep the less frequently needed things to free up the small glove box (Manual / OnStar info / etc).

Also is there something besides the docking cable holding this in-place from sliding out into the passenger compartment?

The docking cable is actually gone now. I was waiting on a 90 degree thru plug that was on Intergalactic Backorder for months. The iPad housing is lined in Suede. It's a snug fit so it won't slide out unless I do it.
