The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has announced a recall of more than 12,000 Cadillac XTS sedans over a head restraint issue.

General Motors is recalling 12,626 XTS models built between October 12, 2011 and August 30, 2012 over Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 202, which pertains to head restraints. Apparently, the Cadillac's rear seat headrests "may not lock in the upright position after being folded forward. If the head restraint is at its lower position and it falls forward, it will not meet the height required by the standard."

This issue could result in an increase risk of neck injuries in the event of a crash. To address this issue, Cadillac is notifying the 12,626 affected owners, and dealerships will replace the units in question with no charge to the owners. This recall commenced yesterday, November 12. I can't really say I'm surprised about a recall. Head rests yes, but a recall in general, not so much. There is so much technology in these vehicles. I'm already aware of a bulletin relating to the instrument cluster in these.

One of two or three reasons I would never buy the first model year.

Well hell, it seems every post I read in the XTS forum is all about how the CUE is malfunctioning in some way or another. Especially the volume control going crazy and getting stuck on full volume or something like that.

There's a reason they say never ever EVER buy the first year for a remodel of a current model. Let alone the first year of an entirely new model altogether. Especially one as technologically advanced as the XTS.

I should clarify, seeing as how my STS was the first year for the actual rear wheel drive STS. You shouldn't buy that first year brand new. Lol. Mine had time to have any bugs worked out. Lol.

Figured I'd clarify before some wise ass pointed this fact out to me. Lol
