So the wife was out of town and me and my 15 year old son were bored....so off to the store we went, cans of PlastiDip later, this is the result. Looks great, but has a bit of a texture to it, I was hoping it would be more smooth (like paint)....will that be the case once it dries some more?

We took the "right" route and pulled the front bumper...man what a PITA it ended up being with all the darn clips underneath!!!!

Looks great...did you need any special tools to get the front clip off?

Do the front splitter under the grill. If you don't like it peel it off. Black looks good with the white. Good job.

You can see a bit of the rough texture here, did I not wait long enough b/w coats or is this just the texture of the PlastiDip?

Yours does seem to have more texture than mine. Like you said, maybe you didn't wait long enough between coats. Mine has a slight texture to it. I can't believe you pulled the front clip off. Your a gluton
for punishment. I put some paper and rags between the front bumper and where needed. Used a long screw driver to shove where needed. Oh well, its done and yours looks great. Cecil...............

Mine isn't that textury, it's pretty smooth. I used 4 coats and waited 15 minutes in between coats. I also sprayed relatively close, and while the first coat was light, the other three were decently heavy.

Can I do my front grill without having to take the bumper off?

kellerk23

Yes but you will have to tape off any thing you don't want to spray! Oh and make sure you put cardboard or a sheet behind the grill so you don't spray the radiator or trans cooler.

I like the look,, I'm hesitant to try it,,and it would be a massive job to remove it from the grill work...I have one question,,does this stuff chip or peel?

Well mine hasn't! I've had mine for months! I've taken long road trips and washed it in a car wash and nothing has happened to it so far.

I like your car, looks great. I have a question, did you use flat black or gloss? I am thinking about doing my grill as my V is pearl white. Thank you. DonS

Only time I've had a texture like that happen is when the cans of plasti dip are a little to cold "like under 60 degrees", normally I will take a heat gun and warm the cans while shaking, give a really nice smooth finish. What was the temp when you did it?

Stillborn
02-04-13, 03:59 PM
plus 1 on the cans being room temp. 70* and also you have to be patient in between coats. i waited 15 mins between every round. (took the kitchen timer to the garage)

I have a Raven '11 CTS 4. First time out on this with the dip and I am considering the Gun Metal Gray (too light?) or Matte Black. Open to suggestions!

Good thing about it is if you don't like it it is easily removed.

I'd say give it a try!

Has anyone actually removed Plastic dip? Not really wanting to buy another grille set if I don't like it.

Using goo gone allows it to be removed as easily as painter's tape. It's great.
