: Oil gauge broken... easy fix?

Hi guys,

The Oil Gauge in my '05 ESV is broken. It goes all the way up instead of staying where it should be (in the middle) . Oil level is okay since I checked it when I first saw the gauge go all the way up. Is there an easy fix foir this problem?

Any help would be great! Thank you!

Sounds like it may be a loose wire or bad sending unit.

Is it an easy fix / DIY kind of deal?

I don't know the level of mechanical abilities that you possess. I do not think it would be a difficult DIY, although I've never replaced an oil sender on this particular type of car, nor do I know exactly where it is located.

Could be 1 of 2 things:

Oil sender switch maybe bad (it happens on these engines). You would need a multi tester (electrical) to make sure you are getting the right voltage sent. I am sorry off the top of my head I don't recall what it is.

Could be a "stepper motor" inside the cluster. It is the actual motor that the gauge arrow slides on to. Do a search here "stepper motor".

Is the info screen showing anything when the gauge does this or not?
