Hi all! Thought to open the floor on this. I have the carb 368 in an '80 Coupe DeVille that just devours oil. #1 is oil fouled, so I removed the valve cover and valve springs. I'm trying to get at the oil seals, but can't figure out how to get them out. Also can't find an exploded view of these heads. Any help appreciated!! Thanx
If your 368 is like mine, it should have nylon 'shedders' instead of rubber seals; these are attached to the bottom of the valvespring retainer. So if you've got the springs out, you should have the 'seals' out, too. If there's no evidence of these things, or any other seal, then that may be your problem - they tend to crack apart and get chewed up by the spring motion; they may have flowed out with the last oil change. You buy new retainers / shedders pre-glued to replace the old. Did you check the compression on #1?
