According to PPG’s annual survey of global color popularity, white ranked first (22 percent) and silver was second (20 percent), followed by black (19 percent), gray (12 percent), red (9 percent), natural (8 percent), blue (7 percent), green (2 percent) and other colors (1 percent).

that's right. Keep off my 7% car!

This was actually released almost a month ago.. but I missed it >_>

My stepdaughter works as a coder for Nationwide Insurance, car and commercial lines. She says that red cars have the highest recurrent insurance premiums due to accident rates.

What is natural? (I'm guessing some sort of a light beige, since I see alot of them)

----------

All of my cars are in the 1%. Does this make my cars elitist?

Very interesting read. It's neat to see how some colors really rise and decrease in popularity. Take for example dark green.....one of the most popular colors in the '90's, now hardly ever seen. Hunter/Forest green really needs to make a return.

Have you ever seen a good picture of a well-polished Polo Green mid-90's STS ?

The emerald and dark metallic greens and a camel colored leather interior simply ooooozzzzes "luxury".

I wonder where white would rank if they left out all commercial and fleet sales.

Natural are earth tones.

Brown, beige, Mocha (like in the SRX and CTS) ect.

Actually the list title is misleading. It should have the words "With Dealers" added to the end of it.
A more accurate title would be, The Least Objectionable Colors, or perhaps be, The Safest Most Salable Colors For Dealers To Sell To People Who Really Wanted Something Else!

The last two years at the dealership I spec'ed out and ordered the cars for our lot. That was back in the days when you could option cars to be different from each other instead of the cookie cutter pick one of three pre-packaged trim levels. One of the major concerns is to order the least objectionable colors, not the most popular.

M5eater, you would be surprised how many salesmen probably heard "ugh, that is too bright" or "I don't like blue". If a color sits on the lot longer, it gets ordered less.

That is why the first four on the list are what we referred to as non colors. (Please, owners/fans of these colors don't shoot the messenger! My personal favorite is white, followed by black.)

Good point on fleet sales too.

As my history shows, I like gold and silver. Can't object to the list. It makes sense.

It's simply gorgeous. Dark Green with the Camel leather interior is a favorite combination of mine.

I like the fact that Kia is bringing back greens on the Soul. The unique "Alien" color is a very fitting color on that car.

Their "Moss" color is great too... Dark green with a hint of brown... Just like Moss..

God, I love the Soul. Neat little cars with lots of space (and personality) and we sell a shitload of them.

I think they are really great little cars too. I am not surprised they sell well. I cant imagine what would possess someone to buy a Mini Countryman instead of one of those.

It seems most of the colors offered on contemporary new cars are variations of grey! There is brown tinted gray, green tinted grey, red tinted grey, blue tinted grey, silver tinted grey ..... ! I feel sorry for those having to buy a new car today, between monotonous "sculptured blob" styling and the monotonous colors that these cow plop cars come in it is enough to make you want to crawl in the corner and eat worms!

I'm not really sure, I can't decide if I like them. I love some of the styling features and I hate others.

No kidding, here's an example. Nissan redesigned the Altima for 2013 and on the prior body style, they offered a beautiful dark blue. When they redesigned it, it became "Storm Blue" which is dark grey with a HINT of navy.....totally different and disappointing.

I liked the early chevy equinoxes ('04-07?). You could get a bright red/ burgundy (like mine) or a super bright electric blue. All the newer ones are either black, grey, or white.

Seems like everybody is offering 7 different shades of silver/grey/gold for color options, with black and white thrown in. BMW, Audi, Benz, and Lexus are real bad about this, I'd say 98% of their cars are black, white, or grey. I personally don't get it, if you're spending $$$$$ on a big flashy sedan or coupe, why would you spec it out in some drab, boring color.

I agree. If I'm ever rich enough, I'd want something large, fast, and orange. No ****s given.

You see too much of the same crap on the road today. :(
