I am considering switching my home phone service to Vonage to get a lower cost for international calling. I would like to hear from someone that has used Vonage. The service requires a high speed internet service. They send a box that plugs into my router and my phone plugs into it. It is not like majic jack that requires the computer to be on all the time. 25.99 plus tax 33.00 total for unlimited international and local long distance. I still have to pay for my DSL service. Any advice is appreciated.

I don't use it and I only know one person who does, really... I used it all the time. I also know that they miss phone calls, when they call other people the caller ID shows funky numbers, the call quality is mediocre, and every other time I used it it dropped the call. You never know, they could have just had a particularly bad connection/product, but that's my experience with it.

You have to be crazy, a masochist, or both to sign up for Vonage. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=vonage+reviews&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&ved=0CF0QFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.consumeraffairs.com%2Fcell_ph ones%2Fvonage.html&ei=_LOSUMmZOonVigK874CACg&usg=AFQjCNGX1awnQVwJ4PpFPoG8iQRtQfDD2Q

My parents have Magic Jack, and with the new ones you don't have to have the computer on all the time to receive calls either. It was $70 for 5 years of service. Worth considering, but I don't know about their international calling stuff.

I recently moved my home line to Callcentric http://www.callcentric.com.
I purchased a OBi202 and set it up to work with Callcentric. http://www.obihai.com/
I bought the OBi202 because it supports faxing and we need to send a about 10 faxes a month.
It is very cheap. The call quality is very good. The options to manage calls are fantastic with their online dashboard.
I have the 'pay as you go' plan that charges < .02 per minute. $20 to port your number (that's pretty standard). My phone bill last month was < $5.
