Alright, on my first track day, my power steering fluid boiled over and the power steering pump failed. Dealer replaced it under warranty and this last weekend I did another trackday and the res was boiling over all day. This time I went with Redline heavy duty fluid but to no avail. Has anybody else run into this problem? And bow are you addressing?

I'm running Lucas Power Steering fluid and I have had no issues at all in 3 track days. Sorry it doesn't help you at all but I would have figured you would be all set running the Redline. Thinking there might be something going on in the rack itself especially if the pump has been replaced.

Hmm. I had two V coupes at the track and they both did it to me... There is a power steering cooler?

There's no way you should be boiling P/S fluid.

the V has a tube and fin cooler. It's more than adequate for track use even. Check the cooler (or replace it) in case it's clogged, damaged or airflow is blocked.

It's the small one directly behind the front cross member. Can't miss it.

Yes, my fluid has leaked a little from the cap, but that was it. Did they confirm the fluid was boiled after doing an analysis? It's still a type of hydraulic fluid, which would have to get over 250? F to boil.

I am making an assumption that it boiled/foamed up because it was everywhere inside the engine bay. No formal testing was done. I will check out the cooler. I was told that because of the added load on the steering pump from increased HP, this was likely the cause, and that the same issue is being seen on the new Camero's that are being supercharged. The solution apparently is a new pump by Lingenfelter I believe.

I've never heard of this happening either. Although, This is the first on-pump res P/S system car I've had too.

No Joke its a very real issue. I race in the Cadillac Challenge series and i am flushing all fluids after every 4 solid track days. There was a car that the owner had run in 7 track events plus daily driver miles and he had a pump failure at the last race at Buttonwillow. If you can feel any fine metallic debris in the fluid your screwed. Ive just decided to bite the bullet and stay on top of the fluid issues cooking. As far as the power steering overflowing just cut a piece off a shop rag and wrap it around the cap then use a ziptie to secure it. Good luck and have fun tearing up the track.

I had some leakage out of the PS reservoir cap on my V1 on a couple of track days. No failures though. Only one track day on the V2, and no leakage issues.
