: Buying another V.............

So the wife needs a new ride and wanted a 2013 Malibu Eco. So I stroll into the Chevy dealer and the Malibu is decent but I get no feeling of excitement to lease or buy a malibu. So I see a VOLT and say let me drive that Fer! I got to say I was VERY impressed. What a car. I mean we are not talking anything close to the V but for what it is I was stunned.

So the lease deals on these things are crazy good right now. $273 a month for 12K miles a year for 3 years and $999 down out the doore for a $41500 car. She drives 25 miles a day so all miles will be on battery power so it will be rare to use any gas. With the fuel savings alone, it covers the lease payment if we can use all 1000 on battery. Although it does cost $1 a day to charge. But her work will be providing a free plug while parked at work.

So I think its funny to have a "V" and a "VOLT" parked in the garage. If that isnt an oxy-moron of a garage photo.

No it's not an oxymoron, it's a "V" thing. Do it!

Congrats!

I talked to a guy driving one and he said while it's no race car, it's surprisingly strong off the line. I guess having 100% torque from a dead stop does that for ya. I've been somewhat intrigued by them, it would be perfect for my better half's commute too. Unfortunately (or fortunately for me) my wife is as big of a gear head as I am and said, "I'm not driving an econobox, even if gas is $10 a gallon!"

Gotta do some side by side pics, the irony is fantastic. Let us know how you like it!

Not to mention a visual representation of the extreme ends of the MPG scale.

Just waiting for the dealer to get the next delivery of Volts in as two are coming next week with the color and options I want. I will take the "Gas guzzler vs Tree Hugger" garage picture once I get her home and post it. FTR I am NOT a tree hugger and I do not buy into all the green hype, I do however enjoy the idea of using little to no gas on the majority of the driving the wife does. Certainly offsets the MPG of my V and my GMC 4x4 sierra nicely. Can't say no to a lease that pays for itself on fuel savings alone.

It is surprisingly quick when you put the shifter into low range (not actually a gear selection) and then set the electric mode to sport mode. It accels darn hard.

I am telling you go test drive one with the wife and I am pretty you will both be surprised, it does not drive or feel like an econobox. Roomy, drives/handles well, quiet, smooth, powerful, comfortable. It has an upscale.luxo feel (albiet short of a caddy). Way nicer than the cruze or malibu thats for sure.

I have been thinking about getting my wife one to supplement her Escalade. I think we could cover the lease price with the savings on gasoline. The only issue I have with it is the access into the back seat--that swoopy roofline is a head knocker.

I love my 2013 Volt! Don't have to buy gas at all! Just had the 240 Volt charger installed in my garage too, so I can fully charge the Volt's dead battery in under 4 hours! I have my own "gas station" on the wall of my garage now!

I have a coworker who went from a Prius to a Volt and she thinks it was the difference between going from a Camry to a Porsche. And she should know since she used to drive a Porsche. Other than some interior material issues for me, I think the Volt is a great car for a commuter.

In Michigan, DTE energy (our electric utility) is giving away free 240 chargers for your home. As soon as I get mine home, I am calling DTE

I am 6'2" and I sat in the backseat with no issue. Way easier than getting in a V coupe.......

Base volt $39995 sticker
10K miles a year for 36 months $999 down $251 a month includes tax
12K miles a year for 36 months $999 down $273 a month includes tax
15K miles a year for 36 months $999 down $296 a month includes tax

Requires first month payment, $190 document fee $400 sec deposit and appx $50 in title and plate transfers.

Got to find a dealer participating in the current volt incentive program. Basically is a risk reward that the dealer agrees to with GM. make your quota of volt sales and get a large bonus or order a bunch of volts and get stuck with them. Select high volume dealers are doing this to make there quota. There is also an elusive but available $1000 private invitation somewhere on GM buypower that can be used as well. My buddy got it, but I did not YET. I am still looking. He was jsut surfing and it popped up on GM Buy Power.

I wonder if GMS pricing sweetens the deal any? This definitely has my attention at these prices. Already loved the car, just not something I'd want to own......especially when I could lease it for this.

10-23-12, 09:43 AM
The VOLT does not allow use of employee discount, although you can use GM card money, and any other random GM or dealer incentives. This deal is purely to get the VOLT out there so people start getting knowledge and excitement. To date GM has only sold 16K volts when they had projected 90K sold. Technology is slow to be accepted by people.

Don't forget the federal tax break...

larry arizona
10-24-12, 12:18 PM
If you are talking about the $7500 tax break, when you lease, the lease company takes that credit for you. Some states offer additional tax breaks for owning/leasing one, but Michigan is not one of those states yet.

Well I'm not having much luck with the North Carolina dealers. I have driven to 1, called 4 and haven't been able to get below $290 month payment. To be fair, only two of the four are working on "the deal". Hendrick Chevy called me, had a long conversation where I explained the deal you are getting but they haven't called back for 2 days. The other dealer just sends automated emails and doesn't respond to my replies.
Perhaps I should contact the government agency that owns them? J/K

I live in NC too. Hendrick would be the only dealer large enough to participate in this deal, but they are notoriously impossible to deal with.

Most large dealers in Metro Detroit are doing this deal. In the Sunday paper there were no less than 10 local dealers doing this same deal. Mine has been built , has a VIN, and is route to the dealer. Just to clarify the deal (as it got better). I am getting a Volt with leather and high polish options only so sticker is $41,800 ish, $999 down and due at signing, first payment, $190 doc fee, plate transfer and title fee 36 months, 15k miles a year with tax included in the payment $292 a month. My dealer just started working with US Bank instead as an alternate to ally bank and it dropped payment $15 a month and no up front security deposit but they do have a $395 lease disposal fee. Hamtramck assembly plant is about 35 miles from me so it should be at the dealer fri or mon. My coworker picked up the same deal yesterday and it went very smoothly. This dealer meets there monthly quota with my lease. So they are happy too. Win win.

KTM, It takes a change in mindset thats for sure. I am not a tree hugger and I don't buy into all the "green" doomsday crap, I just like not paying for gas.

At least its not a prius and I am keeping the V until the wheels turn square!

Yep, I just saw Al Serra's ad on their website. I may forward that ad to some of the dealers I'm talking with because they sure can't figure it out. I may just see if I can get one from them and ship it down to NC.

I finished the paperwork last night and the deal was EXACTLY as promised. So I asked the dealers general manager why such a good deal??? He did say they signed up for 80 volts to sell in several months, if they sell there monthly quota GM pays them a large reward. Al Serra is taking a $500 loss per volt to get to there quota and more than make up for the per volt loss.

Big Jim, I asked if they could do this deal for out of staters, they said they would do there best, but would have to base the incentives from the state from which you reside in. They are happy to try and see if they can come close to the same deals in our region of Michigan. Certainly explains why others who have tried are not getting the same offers from there local dealers.....
