Loving my 2008 STS RWD with Performance Package. Love the look and feel of the summer tires/wheels but heading into Chicago winter so need to put on some snows.
I am willing to keep the wheels on and just swap the tires. Current size is 255-45R-18. Anyone have any experiece with snows for that exact size?
Appreciate the help!

Don't want snow tires that wide, they'll act like snow shoes...step down to like a 235 for your winter rubber...
The 225/55/17's from my old CTS are going to be my winter tires this year...still mounted on the OEM CTS rims, no TPMS though so I may have to deal with the tire pressure system yelling at me all winter, not worth the $150+ it would cost to have the sensors installed.
The difference in width is not really material. 235 vs 255 is 20mm, about 3/4 of an inch. Real snow tires are vastly better than all-season tires on an RWD; ours get Blizzaks Nov-April.
For sure, I have a set of Cooper Weather-Master ST/2's, performed well on the CTS last winter...and the 5x115 17's should bolt right on :)
Take the spare out of the well and put 2 Man Hole covers in there, you're gonna need it! ;)

I have 225/55/17 Blizzaks for the winter. They work great along with the traction control in the Chicago winter.

I'm approaching Winter #3 with my 235/50x17 Blizzaks. Luv 'em. Especially that whole keeping the car moving in a straight line craziness.

I went with 235/55/18 Pirelli Scorpions and they worked great thru the Chicago winter last year. I had the scorpions on both my Impala SS and Marauder with great results.
