: Whining / rattling sound coming from motor

After a long drive - 12 hours - I parked the car for the night. Started it today and at idle it is making a whining / rattling noise. Sounds like its coming from the blower. It goes away when I rev and put load on the motor. It's still making boost.

Any ideas? I'm concerned bc I'm quite a ways from home (I'm in Chicago and live in Toronto)

Thanks

Got exactly the same problem on cold starts. Look for the thread on supercharger isolator rattle.

Get use to that rattle or replace with a solid isolater. I think it's the worst sound in the world. Driving a 70k car that has a rattling noise that makes it sound like a clunker! Thank god by tomorrow my V won't make that noise
anymore.

Whining? Maybe your wife.
Rattling? Typical isolator.
As long as it doesn't sound like this!

$60 and about 90 minutes can fix it for good. Dealer won't do it. Add the solid isolator and it goes away. Mine never rattled that bad but I swaped it out when I added the 2.55 upper pulley. Silence is good.

It will eventually go away as the shaft wears down. This is not a mechanical problem just can be annoying. ZR1 and ZL1 have the same issue. Lead GM engineer came on here and explained it years ago.

It sounds like the first video. I think it's a bearing. I hope it doesn't let go before I can drive home

not likely a bearing. I have not heard of a stock bearing letting go unless you are running a 2.55/9.6 combo and running the piss out of it. My money is on the isolator rattle and it will do ZERO harm to drive it forever like that.
