Hi everybody, my name is Kevin. I recently bought a 1988 Cadillac Brougham, 65k original miles:

I am immensely pleased with it even though it's needed a few repairs (new catalytic converter, new alternator, flushed/sealed radiator). I am a novice at car repairs, extreme novice actually, so I've been kind of nervous about driving around a 16 year old car. ;)

The car usually runs fine, it overheated once but never since I flushed and sealed the radiator. Sometimes though, I feel like the engine is not running as "hard" as it should be, even with the pedal to the floor. Also, the oil pressure light comes on from time to time. Any advice for a new Caddy owner would be EXTREMELY appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome Kevin!

That 88' looks great! I have included a link that will help you decode your Fleetwood's VIN and give you some history and stats on the 88' FWB:

As far as performance check, tune-up, good hoses (vaccum), fuel system/filter cleaning? Just some basic things.
Check your OBD (on-board diagnostics) for error codes: http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/cadidiag.html#1980.
Good luck!
:welcome:

I took a look at the VIN decoder website, it was very helpful. It says that the sixth and seventh digits represent the body type but for me that's 51, not listed on the site. Is that unusual?
