I Have some questions on plasti dipping the 18" 9 spoke dts wheels I recently picked up
1. How durable is it?
2. Will I have to sand blast the polished aluminum rims?
3. Will it look it as good as say powder coating after I apply the gloss as well?
4. And last is it even worth it?

I have heard great things about plasti dip and i will be getting a can for the Z28. I'll hit you back if its any good and i'll post some photos of it.

Just to add i'm doing the headlight pockets.

1. It is plenty durable IF YOU DO ENOUGH COATS. Four wheels? Use two cans. USE ALL OF IT. Trust me.
2. No. No prep is necessary outside of just washing the wheels to get dirt out that might show under the finish.
3. Here's what my wheels looked like after dipping. The glossifier works well too, but I'm not a fan:

NOTE: I hadn't peeled it off of the tires in that shot. I've found out that if you use tire shine first, then spray, it is easier to peel from them. It isn't hard to begin with though, so whatever.

4. I love it. I'm going to be re-dipping my wheels and grille this week or weekend to see what I think of the black on black look. If I don't like it, there's always this benefit:

It really does peel right off.

Pro tip #2 - avoid the metalizer. It looks like glitter, not metal flake.

I found the glossifier kit on a website and they send 3 cans of black dip and 3 cans of gloss, I've also seen on some other forums where guys put down about 4 coats plasti dip then gloss black spray paint then clear coat spray over that

Also my rims don't have tires on them right now so when I go to get tires put on is the mounting machine going to rip the dip off?

Yeah, I've heard of people doing paint over dip. It works well too.

Not sure on mounting machine. Get them mounted first, if you're really worried about overspray on the tires, stuff index cards between the rim and the tire, boom - no longer a problem.

Roo should have plastidipped his car

Roo thought about it, but it would have cost me more. I'd have needed 3 to 4 gallons because of all the surface area.

Have you guys seen the guy with a 09+ ctsv who plasti dipped the whole thing flat red?

Yup. There's another V2 that's been done matte blue as well.

Did one rim tonight with a gloss black and clear gloss over it all, some spots turned out really nice and perfect others had the rubber look to them so I peeled um off and will be doing all 4 tomorrow with more patience on the plasti dip part
