: Build #'s/VIN's

I placed an order on 07 SEPT and am still waiting for some word regarding a build date. Since this is my first new Cadillac and my prior purchases were other brands, I am used to getting a build # or a VIN for my ordered vehicle and with it an actual build date and delivery date. Is this not a common practice with Cadillac?

Ask your dealer for the order number, event 3400 will give you an idea of the build date.

Here are the production event codes.

1100, Preliminary order accepted
2000, Order accepted by GM
2500, Order preferenced
3000, Order accepted by production control
3100, Order available to sequence
3300, Order scheduled for production
3400, Order broadcast
3800, Order produced
4000, Available to ship
4150, Original invoice to the dealer
4200, Shipped by the plant
4800, Bayed with the carrier
5000, Delivered to the dealer

You won't get a VIN until the car reaches 3800 status and is physically built.

Did your dealer give you an order #? I've never tried to look at an in production unit ordered by another dealer (and don't even know if it's possible), but if you have an order number I'll be glad to try.

Thanks for the replies and the "Caddy" nomenclature. I was asking my dealer for something foreign to them...I am going to pose the proper question and see what the response is.

Well I tried to look it up, but the system only lets me view my own orders. Sorry. :(

I saw that you couldn't find out anything on another dealer's order #. My dealer did indicate that my Production Event Code was 3000. In your experience, once you reach that number, what is the "usual" timeframe for actual delivery of the vehicle? Appreciate your assist.

Obviously it can vary based on parts availability and options ordered, but you're still early in the process. Here's the production history for an ATS which is currently en route to my dealership- that should give you a good idea of time from start to finish.

As you'll see here, it's been just under 3 months since the order was at 3000 status. Obviously this was one of the first ATSs built (order placed in May, before production began), so more recent orders should progress faster since you won't have the one month delay between order acceptance and sequencing. If I'd wager a guess, you're probably 4 to 5 weeks away.

Hope this helps.

This is helpful.

One question--I have an ATS on order (ordered it in July), and the dealer told me it reached 3400 last friday (9/14/12) but he says there was no target production week. Is it safe to say that it is likely (assuming no random glitches) very near production? Is it odd that there is no specific target production given that it has reached 3400 (I thought maybe he misread something--but he showed me the screen where it actually said 3400--but had no target production specified).

Thanks.

What date in July did you order it if you don't mind me asking. Just curious how long they're taking...

I just checked, I actually had the dealer put in the order on June 30, which he said was the first date they were accepting orders. It was a mostly loaded 3.6L Premium RWD, Opulent Blue Metallic.
