Just returned from a 1700+ mi. round trip to Wisconsin. Before we left I adjusted the tires back to 36 p.s.i. Every so often the monitor well tell me to check lft. front, rt.front or rt. rear pressures. Never lft.rear. Also it would randomly tell me to service tire pressure monitor system. Do I need new pressure sensors or batteries replaced? It's an 06 with 65,000 mi. BTW we averaged 27.4 m.p.g. on 55 m.p.h roads in the north country.

Yes, I also noticed the same problems with my DTS. I am from the old school of thought. I rely on a good old pressure gauge and I check the pressure in each tire before I leave town. I personnaly do not trust the TPMS sensors. I changed two sensors in the back tires not long ago but still same problems. In my opinion, they are nuisance to me.
Can't help with the issue but must comment on the "nuisance" description. Twice I was saved by the system. Once, going down a highway at 65mph the low press warning came on. I was just about at an exit so took it and pulled off right after leaving the exit. I had picked up a huge bolt in a construction zone. The tire was almost completely flat by time I came to a stop. But the $$$ chrome rim was undamaged as was I. Second time, came out of a church service, started the car and got a pressure warning. Walked around to the blind side of the car and sure enough one tire was half flat. Had picked up a nail. Changed the tire there before I could have gotten into trouble. I LOVE the system.
I should have clarified in my earlier response regarding the TPMS being a ‘nuisance’. The TPMS is an excellent tool as it, among others things, warns you of significant tire pressure changes on the DIC. What I meant to say that it is a ‘nuisance’ while driving and you monitor the tire pressures on the DIC and it keeps on telling you that left rear tire pressure is 37 psi or right front tire pressure is 30 psi. My wife gets frustrated with this. It is also a good tool for people who don’t check the tires pressure regularly or don’t inspect the tires before driving. TPMS is an added safety feature. TPMS can alert a driver about a low tire pressure condition.
I check tire pressure, including the spare, on a monthly basis.
You have to remember that the TPMS was never intended to be used to check you tire pressure. You need a high quality gauge to do that. It is intended to warn you of dangerous pressures. TULSAVIC hit the nail on the head (no pun intended) in describing his two experiences.
I had a TPMS sensor lose connection and would show no pressure for a few miles and then reconnect. It eventually died. After some research, I took it to walmart of all places and they installed a new sensor for me. It cost around 60 bucks installed. Haven't had any problems since. Im glad my car has the option and shows each individual tire pressure. There is less than a 1lb difference between the sensor reading and me manually checking it.

I guess I wasn't clear enough. It's tell me randomly to check 3 out of the 4 tires when there isn't anything wrong with the pressures. This started when I checked & reset pressures prior to our trip to Wisconsin. The readout for the 4 wheels are all normal. Does something needs resetting or do I need new senors?

I would be tempted to go by a tire shop and let them reset them with the electronic gadget they use.
Then if it keeps acting up, I would try to figure out if it is the TPMS sensors or the main receiver in the car that is giving trouble.
That being said... over time ... "ALL" of the wheel sensors on my car have all been replaced.
And one of them has been replaced twice.
Is the going rate $150.00 a tire. If is the Main receiver what is the going rate? Car started out with all ok. then Left front. Dealer reset came back said it was Left Rear. Got Home and later back in car now all four show no tire reading?
The last one I had replaced was done at Discount Tire a couple of months ago...
Cost me somewhere around 60/65 bucks total.
If someone is charging you 150 bucks... they are trying to rip you off... BIG TIME.
I don't know what the cost of the main receiver would be.
Norm, I was sorry to read about your TPMS confusion and wanted to let you know that if you'd like to contact the Customer Assistance team near you at any point, GM of Canada agents are available at 800-263-3777 (Hours: M-F 7:30am - 11:30pm, Sat 7:30am - 6:00 EST).
Finally might have a fix. The rt. front sensor stopped giving a pressure reading. Local GM dealer installed a new one & set them all with their scanner. Haven't driven enough yet to confirm a fix. Cost was 51.87 before tax. This was a wholesale price thru my buddies business.
Norm.
It's probably because the pressure is too high in your tires, I keep mine between 33-35 psi otherwise when the tires heat up the TPMS will trigger over inflation.
My tires are inflated with Nitrogen and never lose pressure, most tire centers and Costco can change it from air to Nitrogen for you.
When I got my tires installed by GM dealer about 2 months ago and 7 thousand miles, 1 of the beads was not sitting properly on the rim and would loose 4 psi per night and would never regain that lost PSI like the other 3 tires had, had the dealer reinstall the bead on that tire, still was doing the same thing... THEN A 30 year Veteran mechanic said to dab some silicone grease onto the valve stem and then add some PSI. Problem solved~! Now even with temp changes thru the night PSI stays the same.
