Will the factory Bose system control an iPod, or merely listen to one?
That is, do I need to put the iPod somewhere I can get to it to select a playlist or move through tracks, or can I navigate with the audio system?
Does it show track information?
I have an Alpine iDA-X305 in my 05 Corvette now and I love it; I need to figure out what my options in the Caddy would be.
I can only speak to the upgraded audio system with the NAV.
Yes you can control the iPod through the audio system.
Yes it will allow you to select a playlist, songs, and move through tracks through the audio system.

Yes, you can control the iPod through the radio controls. Just make sure you get the special cord from the dealer. Don't buy an aftermarket cord....I did and had no luck. Other posters have mentioned the same problem as well.
Never tried it on my car - I do have the base 8-speaker Bose audio system - but I think that you cannot control the Ipod. You can only listen to it and if you want to change track, you have to do it from the Ipod itself. You have to select 'AUX' in order to listen to it. Again, that's what I heard for the base audio system.
The above are al correct. On the base system you use the miniplug jack and control everything from the ipod. On the upgrade with NAV, you plug the Ipod into the usb in the glove compartment and control from the screen or dash controls.
I do NOT have the nav upgrade and I have the USB connection in the center console, and I can control my iPod using the radio controls. I don't know if my system is the base, but it definitely does not have the nav.
Well, you most likely have the 40GB HDD, 10 speakers 5.1 surround and no NAV. This is the mid-level sound system offered in the CTS. The "mid-level" refers to the fact that only the NAV is missing. All other components are the same as the up-level system.

Thanks for the intel. Sounds like I can leave the head unit alone as long as I get the uplevel system. The speakers, that remains to be seen...
