: German Article about the ATS

Just stumbled over this German article about the ATS and its introduction in the German market:

http://auto.t-online.de/cadillac-ats-so-sportlich-ist-die-mittelklasse-limousine/id_59053818/index

Basically, they seem to like the car. They only have an issue with the transmission and the somewhat low MPG on the V6.

Interesting side-note: They are mentioning optional Auto High Beams. Strange that they will be available in Europe but not over here..

The US spec ATS will indeed have automatic high beams.

Cool! I was under the impression that it wouldn't because so far, I haven't been able to locate a source that said it would.

Yep. I believe they're called "IntelliBeam"

Interesting. I was able to locate this article that mentions IntelliBeam for the ATS:

http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/cadillac/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2012/Jun/0622_ats.html

However, neither the current brochure

http://www.cadillac.com/content/dam/Cadillac/Global/master/nscwebsite/en/home/Help_Center/Download_Brochure/01_images/Cadillac_2013_ATS_Catalog_7-24.pdf

nor the current order guide (standard features)

http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/domestic/proddesc.jsp?year=2013&regionID=1&divisionID=5&type=0&vehicleID=12622&section=oi_def&page=7&pagenum=3&page=7&butID=16&addOptions=

or the optional features

http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/domestic/proddesc.jsp?year=2013&regionID=1&divisionID=5&type=0&vehicleID=12622&section=oi_def&page=1&pagenum=3&page=1&butID=3&addOptions=

lists IntelliBeam. Only "(T4F) HID headlamps with Adaptive Forward Lighting" is mentioned.

And since the brochure and Order Guide were released after the announcement of IntelliBeam (article was published 6/22/2012), chances are that they are either late availability or - what I believe due to not being mentioned at all in the brochure - dropped for MY13.:hmm:

Well, the "automatic" part of that feature should avoid just that. But again, I'm still having my doubts that the ATS will have that feature for now.

They are auto on/off, works well on the jeep grand Cherokee they turn off well in advance of blinding on coming traffic.

That's true. Our MY06 Jeep Grand Cherokee already had that feature and meanwhile, Mercedes and BMW are offering it, too (it will also be available on the new Lincoln MKZ).

until a few years from now when some of the sensors start failing. or until owners start trading in their ATS on a car that doesnt have it. at which point, tens of thousands of drivers who have gotten used to auto high beams start driving around without it and forget to turn off their high beams.

If I were king, it would be mandatory that high beams only activate on momentary switches.

According to GM's September 2012 Volume 14 No. 9 issue of TECHLINK (i.e. on page 3 under 'Advancing Safety'), the 2013 Cadillac ATS will feature Intellibeam headlamp control. Here's a link to the document: http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/September-Techlink-2012-F.pdf

O ye, of little faith! The ATS should have the feature from the get-go. The Automatic High-Beam System (aka Intellibeam headlamp control) is discussed in the 2013 Cadillac ATS owner's manual, on page 5-46 (Instruments & Controls/Vehicle Personalization section) and pages 6-2 & 6-3 (Lighting section).
Here's a link to download the '13 ATS owner's manual directly from cadillac.com: http://www.cadillac.com/owners/auto-owners-manuals.html
Enjoy! :)

Great find!

Now, look what I found:

2-19: If the vehicle is equipped with
power folding mirrors...

5-5: For vehicles with headlamp
washers, they are located to the
side of the headlamps

Sooo...are we going to get these features, too?

I would love to have power folding mirrors. Had them on my 135 really like that feature

Hmm... power folding mirrors and headlamps washers would be nice to have, but those particular features may only be available on vehicles built for export. Any mention of these items in the GM online order guide for the ATS?

Not that I'm aware of - that's why I wouldn't bet on getting IntelliBeam just because it's mentioned in the manual alone. On the other hand, the .pdf that was posted earlier raises those chances.

Oh, BTW - and in reference to the other thread about ambient lighting:

I checked the entire manual and wasn't able to find anything about it. That's strange...:hmm:

Just checked the order guide and didn't see them (i.e. power folding mirrors and headlamp washers). These items can be prone to failure (think warranty costs), particularly in winter, so I wouldn't be surprised if Cadillac didn't offer these features on ATS's for North America. Intellibeam however should be provided.

Funny though that these features are mentioned in a manual specifically for the US, Canada and Mexico.

But hey, I can live without these features. NOW, if they could add some neat rear-sunshades....

Intellibeam however should be provided.

Absolutely. Especially on a vehicle in this class.

Owner's manuals are not perfect. My Enclave owner's manual has illustrations of features from the Buick Rainier.

Yep, that doesn't surprise me. The separate CUE-manual isn't very specific on the according vehicle either - it's rather a "one manual covers it all"-approach.

At least they are still making owner's manuals. Can't say that about every manufacturer anymore.

The ATS is a sports sedan. Keeping the weight down trumps many superfluous items...
