and came across a dazzle-painted BMW with manufacturer plates on it. Some of the windows were also blocked over with the same dazzle-paint scheme as the car and the tail lights were obscured. Obviously a test mule of some sort. I bit further down the freeway, I came across another BMW with mfr plates, but not dazzle-painted, just plain white. The two cars seemed to be about the same size, but the plain white one lacked model ID. From the size of them they seem to be either 1 or 3 series four-door sedans.

I'm not up on BMWs, pending or otherwise. Does anyone know if a new 1 or 3 series sedan is in the offing? Sorry I didn't get any pictures, but 9 at night on a dark freeway doing 70mph is not conducive to photography, stellar or otherwise.

You mean BMW is still a company?

I was looking at a 5th gen 750i yesterday, and I absolutely love the look of the thing. The only exception is the rear end. It looks stubby.

As for your question, I have no clue.

Could be the 4 series gran coupe. The new M3 is in testing now but they're past the point of covering up the taillights, and the new 4 series coupe is testing as well but you said it looked like a 4 door, so probably not that. The 1 series 4 door is a hatchback and the US doesn't get it, so not that either.

This is heavy...

There's that word again. Heavy. Is there something wrong with the earths gravitational pull in 1985?

Yeah, it does seem both cars and people are getting heavier and heavier than in tmes gone by, but I don't think it has anything to do with the Earth's gravity!

The Libyans!

Young whippersnappers today can't comprehend the Cold War, the Berlin Wall or just what snotrags the Libyans were...

Yay, another series. Should just stick with proper 3, 5, 7 and the occasional 6...

BMW is a business and does what they need to do to stay competitive and profitable. If that means another series for a niche market, so be it. It's not like they're discontinuing the 3/5/6/7 or anything.

I've all but written the Germans off at this point. I'm just not very interested in anything they're doing anymore with the exception of Audi and a few Mercs.

Oddly, the new Audi's appeal to me. Well, from a styling standpoint, not familiar with them beyond that. A5/S5 is a stunning car.

What does the Audi own?

I hate '80s and '90s era Audis, then after the whole brand redid it's self from about 1997 (new A4) to 2003 (new A8), they became vastly more appealing, but still behind BMW and Mercedes overall. However, of the current model year, I'd say that Audi's designs are by far the best looking overall, inside & out of the three German luxury brands.
